METLEN Energy & Metals is a global industrial and energy company covering two business Sectors: Energy and Metallurgy. The Company is strategically positioned at the forefront of the energy transition as an integrated utility, while already established as a reference point for competitive green metallurgy at the European and global level. It has a consolidated turnover and EBITDA of €6.35 billion and €823 million, respectively, and employs more than 5,442 direct and indirect employees in Greece and abroad.
The percentage of young people aged 25-29 with disabilities in Greece who are not working currently reaches 60% and is one of the highest negative percentages in Europe. For this reason, in 2021, MYTILINEOS, in the context of the social initiatives of responsible entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development that it has developed, collaborated with the Social Enterprise knowl and designed the innovative Mellonabilities program.
The Mellonabilities program, completely faithful to the values of MYTILINEOS and above all to the respect of employees, the development of their abilities and the provision of all supplies for their empowerment, aims to provide personalized development of professional skills to people with disabilities (mobility, vision and hearing ) and in the targeted preparation of 25 participants with disabilities for their successful integration into the labor market. The first cycle was successfully completed, while MYTILINEOS was also committed to the implementation of the 2nd cycle.
The program is aimed directly at people with disabilities (mobility, vision, hearing) who wish to develop and join the labor market for a sustainable future and indirectly at employers who could give the aforementioned people the opportunity to work, joining their potential people with special personal gifts.
Implementation of the 1st pilot cycle with duration: Seven months
MYTILINEOS proceeded to create the innovative "mellonabilities" program, lasting 7 months (June 2021-February 2022), aiming to provide personalized development of professional skills and the special personal gifts of 25 people with disabilities (motor, visual and auditory), in order to develop and join the labor market at zero cost. The implementation of the program is based on the proven, effective model of adult training, Social Skills Accelerator #mellonabilities, providing them with personalized training in soft, hard, digital skills, interview simulations, professional skills seminars, identification and analysis of strengths to develop a sustainable future in the long term for themselves, responding to the challenges of the future. In particular, the desire of people to participate in order to join the program was remarkable. With the end of the registration applications, the evaluation of the applications began with only the following criteria: 1) unemployment, 2) the order of priority as well as 3) willingness on the part of the participants to take part in a skills strengthening program. Telephone and written communications were made with all participants, without exception, in order to inform them in more detail about the structure of the program as well as about the progress of their application. The target group was people with motor, hearing or vision disabilities. A total of 20 people with mobility, 3 with hearing and 2 with visual disabilities participated with a competent representation of the sexes without any discrimination of age, nationality and sexual orientation, while of all the beneficiaries who joined the Program, 11 have completed Secondary and 14 Tertiary Education.
The peculiarities and distinct needs of the participants played a decisive role in the design and implementation of the online trainings. Taking into account the particularities of the cycle and to ensure accessibility, the necessary adjustments were made both to the tools used in the context of the cycle, to the way of communication with the participants and to the general methodology of the program. Additional hours and specialized topics were added to the specific cycle which helped the organization and the participants to better understand the needs.
MYTILINEOS gave the opportunity to a total of 25 beneficiaries to successfully complete the 1st #mellonabilities pilot cycle by offering substantial and immediate support, bringing positive results. 12% of them are already working, while the rest continue empowered and motivated to improve their lives. 1,418 hours of online training were offered in 24 topics with the invaluable contribution of 21 lecturers, while 16% of the beneficiaries received professional certification, acquiring useful knowledge and skills.

95% of the respondents stated that they have gained useful knowledge and skills that will help them to claim a position in the labor market with a better chance of success and would recommend/recommend the program to others to attend.
