In a period full of successive challenges (climatic, pandemic, geopolitical, inflationary), Interamerican steadily continues its course with the aim of having a positive impact on the economy, the environment and society.
In 2022, the Sustainable Development Strategy (Sustainability Strategy) was developed which sets clear goals for its implementation. Goals that we set and prioritize with transparency and commitment based on the principles of ESG (Environment-Society-Governance) while at the same time we measure them and evaluate their footprint at regular intervals.
More specifically, the actions that have been launched focus on the 3 stores of the group's Sustainable Development Strategy:
Sustainable Business Operation
Sustainable Products and Services
Creating value for Stakeholders
The action plan concerns matters of reducing our environmental footprint from our operation as a business (e.g. new recycling system in our embroidery offices, implementation of rational energy/water consumption practices, etc.), training/informing colleagues about issues of equality and the management of incidents of discrimination in the workplace, governance (e.g. introducing a policy for Sustainable Procurement) and risk management, canonical and legal requirements (SFDR and Taxonomy), issuing new, "sustainable" insurance products and further integration of ESG criteria into the Group's processes.
This plan has the following features:
It is aligned with Achmea's strategy and goals, Interamerican's Vision and Mission
It aligns with the company's business plan for 2023
It is linked to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN
It is realistically ambitious, with the prospect of development and progress taking into account the means and resources available
For the implementation of this plan, the following two "mechanisms" have been created within the company:
Sustainability Committee (SC): Consists of the Executive Committee and the Sustainability & Stakeholders Relations Leader. The role of the Committee is to set the strategic directions, to ensure the resources and means for the implementation of the projects, to put Sustainable Development issues on the agenda of the Board of Directors.
Sustainability Team (ST): Consists of executives who represent all the company's critical areas of responsibility and are responsible for implementing the Strategy's action plan as well as reporting progress at regular intervals.
These mechanisms interact and cooperate with the Sustainability & Stakeholders Relations Leader who is the connecting link between the two. She is responsible for the preparation of the annual action plan, the selection of the Performance Measurement Indicators (KPIs), the schedule, the agenda of the Committee's issues and informing its members about the progress made by the Group.
Sustainable Development (Sustainability) refers to economic development that is planned and implemented taking into account the biggest challenges facing our planet such as climate change, the outbreak of COVID-19, social inequality, air and ocean pollution, hunger . All this can only be resolved at the global level, with the commitment of states and the private sector to sustainable development, social progress, environmental protection and responsible economic development. Private enterprises play a critical role in achieving a sustainable economic system. Only with the commitment and active participation of each company and its people will the desired change come. At Interamerican we have started this journey already gaining a significant lead which is recognized by our shareholder, employees, partners and customers.
