It is a functional as well as an innovative approach that allows us to respond with best practices, at the right time, to a variety of challenges. The initiative aims to substantially strengthen the country’s operational readiness and the resilience of local communities against natural disasters and crises. Lidl Hellas, recognizing that the climate crisis increases the frequency and intensity of events such as wildfires, floods and earthquakes, entered into a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection to create a Crisis Response Hub in Chalandri, within the Operations Coordination Center of the Fire Service.
The goal is to establish a permanent, fully organized and immediately deployable infrastructure, stocked with essential goods for affected citizens, rescuers and volunteers. The initiative is part of Lidl Hellas’ responsibility strategy and, more specifically, of its commitment to act in ways that are “Good for people”, leveraging its strengths - organization, supply chain capacity, product quality and implementation consistency - for the benefit of society.
The initiative is mainly linked to SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, SDG 13 “Climate Action” and SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals”.

Local communities across Greece that may be affected by natural disasters, citizens in crisis, rescuers, volunteers, civil protection bodies and institutional stakeholders.
The project was implemented and inaugurated in 2025, with Lidl Hellas committed to annual replenishment and continuous operational readiness.
In 2025, Lidl Hellas made a total donation of EUR 400,000 for the creation and operational activation of the Crisis Response Hub. The investment includes EUR 200,000 for the study, reconstruction and full configuration of the space into a modern storage facility, and EUR 200,000 for its initial full supply with Lidl Hellas essential products, such as food, water, hygiene and hydration items.
The Hub has been designed to operate as an emergency warehouse, ready to be activated in cases of wildfires, floods, earthquakes or other crises. Its stock was organized according to the international humanitarian Sphere Standards, ensuring that it responds to real field needs and can immediately cover the basic needs of affected people, first responders and volunteers.
The initiative was officially inaugurated on December 4, 2025 and is a strong example of public-private cooperation with tangible social value. Lidl Hellas does not stop at the initial delivery of the project; it has committed to the Hub’s annual replenishment, ensuring that it remains fully stocked, functional and ready for every new need.
The innovative element of the project lies in the fact that it is not a one-off donation after a crisis, but a preventive social resilience infrastructure embedded in the country’s civil protection mechanism.

The project created a permanent, immediately deployable crisis support infrastructure, strengthening the national civil protection mechanism and, by extension, the local communities that may be affected by natural disasters. In times of crisis, the Hub enables the faster, more organized and more reliable distribution of essential goods to citizens, rescuers and volunteers.
The measurable elements of the initiative are clear: a total investment of EUR 400,000, of which EUR 200,000 was allocated to reconstruction and configuration of the infrastructure and EUR 200,000 to the initial supply. In addition, 100% annual replenishment of the stock is planned, so that the Hub remains constantly available.
The impact is multi-level: for the state, a critical operational structure is strengthened; for local communities, an additional safety net is created; for frontline teams, faster access to essential supplies in the field is secured.

The initiative is implemented in strategic cooperation with the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and is integrated into the Operations Coordination Center of the Fire Service. The public authority defines the operational needs and the framework for using the infrastructure, while Lidl Hellas undertakes the funding, configuration of the facility, initial supply and future replenishment with essential goods.
The partnership demonstrates how the expertise and readiness of the public mechanism can be strengthened by the organizational and supply chain capacity of a major retailer, creating a solution of high social value for local communities.
The implementation of the project involved Lidl Hellas teams from corporate responsibility, purchasing, logistics and project coordination, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and the Fire Service.
The participation of Lidl Hellas people was not limited to financial contribution; it included planning, selection of appropriate products, supply organization and a commitment to continuously monitor the adequacy of the Hub.
