Objective Action

The aim is to provide an innovative and more cost-effective alternative to the conventional construction of pavement bases and sub-bases using unbound aggregates.

Target Audience

The new line of products of the HERAKLIS Group is aimed at customers all over Greece, with an emphasis on mortar, ready-mixed concrete and prefab companies, aiming at the same time to enter new markets (plastics, paints, paper, animal feed, etc.).

Duration

As early as 2019, the HERACLIS Group started promoting the CBGM (Cement Bound Granular Mixture) solution for the construction of stabilized pavement bases and subbases and continues to this day.

Description

Taking into account that the construction of road projects is related to 18% of global carbon emissions and at the same time that it requires the consumption of significant amounts of natural resources (60 thousand tons of materials per kilometer of highway) the HERAKLIS Group proceeded to promote the implementation of relevant sustainable solutions in the Greek construction market.

In particular, in 2019, he proceeded to promote the CBGM (Cement Bound Granular Mixture) solution, which concerns the construction of stabilized bases and subbases of road surfaces, with the most important application being the selection of this particular solution in the road surface restoration works in the section of Egnatia Road "A/K Ardaniou - Kipi".

CBGM is a homogeneous mixture of crushed gravel of appropriate grading with cement and water, which, properly compacted, is used for the construction of pavement bases and sub-bases. It is a more cost-effective and certainly a sustainable alternative to the conventional construction of pavement bases and sub-bases using unbound aggregate materials (UGM: Unbound Granular Mixture).

It is noted that products of stabilized aggregate paving materials with cement (cement-bound gravel) are used as structural layers of bases and sub-bases in roads, airports and ports with great success in many countries of the world and mainly in European countries in the last fifty years.

The product is produced in a ready-mixed concrete production unit in accordance with the following regulatory references: ELOT TP 1501-05-030501:2009 Pavement Layers of Cement-bound Sand Gravel & ΕΝ 14227-1 Cement and Other Hydraulically Bound Mixtures. Aggregate materials certified according to EN 12620 and CEMII/B-M(WL)32.5R type cement are used for its preparation, which is CE certified according to the requirements of Standard EN 197-1.

  • Possibility of using recycled aggregates
  • Increasing the lifespan of pavements

The most important application in the selection of this particular solution concerns the restoration works of the road surface in the section of Egnatia Road "A/K Ardaniou - Kipoi".
