The formation of a learning culture of cooperation in the city of Heraklion, is an important condition for the development of all those actions of the municipality that contribute to the improvement of the standard of living of the citizens. Although in the Municipality of Heraklion various training and education efforts are recorded, it is necessary to have a coordinated leverage process for the promotion, mobilization and interconnection of learning resources in the city of Heraklion.
The main goal of the conference is the implementation of four thematic axes:
The first thematic axis concerns the interconnection of learning institutions in Heraklion.
The second thematic axis concerns the cooperation of the learning institutions in Heraklion through the joint formulation of a unified content, goals and strategy which can be seen by the citizens, as a common component of the individual actions of the institutions.
The third thematic axis concerns the mobilization of learning institutions in Heraklion with specific actions and implementation proposals.
The fourth thematic axis concerns the promotion of citizens' initiatives through learning actions and their mobilization and support by the learning institutions of the city.
In the context of the principles of equal opportunities and non-discrimination on grounds of race or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, gender or age, the Court addresses all adults, the unemployed and the employed, by gender, educational level, country of origin, religion, place of residence, young people, students, volunteers, etc., with the sole condition that they are interested in knowledge and active participation.

The Municipality of Heraklion, with the contribution of the Greek National Commission for Unesco, became a member of the UNESCO Global Network for "Learning Cities" in 2016. Various actions and initiatives were implemented and highlighted the commitment of the city of Heraklion to the principles of the network, by promoting learning and development opportunities for all.
The organization of the 1st Scientific Conference was based on the belief of the Scientific Committee for Lifelong Learning of the Municipality of Heraklion that we must take coordinated action to communicate our participation in the UNESCO World Network of Learning Cities and the belief that the Conference will be an important step in learning culture of cooperation in the city, as well as in the mobilization and interconnection of learning resources in the city of Heraklion.
The interconnection of learning institutions in Heraklion and the understanding of the need for cooperation between them in order to form coordinated actions and learning initiatives with greater impact on society.
The promotion with press releases, TV spots and through social media, had an excellent result and aroused the interest of the citizens, something that was reflected in the large and active participation in the Conference.
The conference had 280 registrations, 64 speakers took part and the conference page on FB was visited by over 20.000 users.
The transnational - As a member of the UNESCO World Network for Learning Cities, the Municipality of Heraklion sends an action report and therefore all 229 member cities from 51 countries of the network have access to good practices, which are proposals for initiatives and actions.
The participation of scientists and university professors from all over Greece gives an inter-municipal character to the action.

IEK, KEK, DBM Centers, natural persons.
Participation of Employees and Volunteers (Representatives of the Education Volunteers Group of the Municipality of Heraklion) among the speakers.
The conclusions of the Conference are a key planning tool for the Municipality of Heraklion.
