Municipality of Crete established by Kallikrates Program. It resulted by the merger of pre-existing municipalities: Heraklion, Palianis, Temenos, New Bodrum and Gorgolaini.

The main objectives of the project are: a) the selection of suitable and representative common areas of urban interest for the installation of AMK b) the installation of AMK and their operation, in combination with a detailed sorting system at the source, which includes all fractions of ASA ie recyclable (packaging materials) and general (that does not belong to the other two categories), c) the complete and detailed environmental, economic and technological evaluation of the process, in order to assess the real economic and environmental benefit and of course, the technological possibility of further expansion and implementation of the system in all Municipalities, and d) the diffusion of the project results and the development of material that will allow Municipalities / Regions / ASA Management Bodies to implement respective programs, faster and successfully (within and outside the Regions of the Program but also of the two countries).

Operation of both the AMK (with their continuous monitoring), as well as the general sorting system at the source that will be installed in the apartment buildings. Based on the initial estimates, more than 50 tn of biowaste in each of the Municipalities and another 25 tn of recyclable materials are expected to be managed, within a full year. It is obvious that the goal is to maximize this value.

35 families in the area of Ai Giannis Heraklion and 20 in the area of Nea Alikarnassos have expressed interest.
