Protect the promotion, preservation and increase of the prestige of the cultural heritage and identity, through the new digital media.

Promotion and support of local artists and the production of cultural products and goods.

Sustainable urban development, through the interconnection of culture with local communities, entrepreneurship and tourism.

Provision of cultural goods and services to the public, which does not have physical access to it.

Activation and participation of the business world in the actions of the organization for the attraction of sponsorships and further allocation of resources in the production of cultural products.

Creating conditions and infrastructure and developing skills for the future sustainability of digital culture

Enhancing the employment of the artistic potential of the place and the entire labor market, which specializes in audiovisual media and services.

Development of cultural pluralism at the level of produced cultural product but also in free distribution to all.

 

Target Audience

It is worth mentioning the 300 artists who participated in the cultural production, the 250 audiovisual technicians and the period of four months that took place for the filming of these producers.

It should also be noted that a program of digital events was printed in a 100-page issue as well as that all digital and printed content is developed in Greek and English, in order to connect culture with tourism. This printed material is also available to the public from the Tourism Office of the Municipality of Heraklion.

Our digital presence has been particularly noticeable as reflected in measurable quantitative data which we are indicative of as the function and process of managing digital media and promoting cultural content is dynamic. Indicatively for the first 10 months of its operation, the channel has already downloaded and shown over 94 digital productions and in particular:

7 visual artists and exhibitions,

8 Archival material of Vikelaia Municipal Library

with 2,800 registered users

with 86,300 thousand unique visitors

but also with screenings outside Greece in: Cyprus, Canada, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Morocco, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, USA, United Kingdom, Egypt, Japan, Poland, etc.

 

Duration

The screening of the producers started in April 2020 and will continue until the middle of April 2021, when the production process of the new digital cultural products for the year 2021 2022 will start. The online premieres take place every Monday and Wednesday with the screening of new digital derivatives created exclusively for Heraklion Arts & Culture and after their premiere remain free and available on demand for viewing.

Initiative Location

During the online events:

We went into our indoor garden theaters and videotaped jazz concerts,
We entered the closed gates of the Venetian Chandakas and filmed Orestes of Euripides.
We entered the great Basilica of St. Mark and old Cretan poets spoke to us
We entered the halls of the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion with shooting of children's theaters and traditional sounds
We visited visual artists in their workshops and got to know their touches
We were hosted at the Ecclesiastical Museum of St. Catherine of Sinai and we were guided to the School of Cretan Hagiography and the style of Damascene
We entered the Vikelaia Municipal Library and listened to historians in great literary readings
We went up to the forest of Fourni and filmed children's tales about the gods of Olympus
We flew over Heraklion and got to know the course and history of the water in Chandaka
We climbed the Nida plateau for Chekhov's sake
We filmed concerts and theater in closed wineries, in closed theaters, in neoclassical buildings, in closed conservatories, in many inland villages and in many other parts of the Municipality.

Working with Organization

Regarding the implementation process of the producers and after the open electronic invitation to the artists, 155 applications for production of cultural works were submitted for evaluation in the context of the development of the digital festivals of the Deputy Mayor of Culture. From these applications, 67 proposals for the digital culture channel were selected:

32 music productions

14 theatrical productions

6 children's productions

7 visual artists and exhibitions,

5 Literary Analogies

3 Guided Tours - Documentary

For the production of the above digital producers worked:

300 artists (musicians, singers, actors, directors, etc.) and

250 technicians (cameramen, sound engineers, cameramen, cinematographers, etc.)

Focusing on modern digital technologies, the cultural communication strategy developed by the Municipality of Heraklion, aimed to bring culture to the forefront, to reconnect it with society and the economy, as an essential means of improving human life and competitiveness. . Globally, there is a rapid increase in the traffic of internet users to cultural products. The use of digital technologies and networks can significantly increase the public value of cultural heritage as they reshape the relationship between culture and man and society. In this way, "Digital culture not only nullifies the notion of mass but also establishes equal and reciprocal digital communication relationships."

At the same time, we elaborated with due seriousness, responsibility and consistency copyright terms and at the same time we were trained in the use of production of audiovisual tools and terms such as digital graphic design, montage, mastering, export.

We have created remarkable productions, in different fields, we have supported remarkable efforts and we are happy to see the creativity of the contributors when they come out of the established forms. It was a challenge that we accepted, an experiment that succeeded, a bet that was won and a goal that was achieved with complete success. At the same time it is for us an ongoing school, a long-term experience, a new different beginning for all of us who work for the best possible result in the field of culture.
