Founded in 1998, HELLENiQ ENERGY (https://www.helleniqenergy.gr/en) is one of the leading energy groups in South East Europe, with presence in 6 countries and activities spanning across the energy value chain, namely: oil refining and fuel marketing, exploration and production, renewable energy sources, petrochemicals, power and gas.
HELLENiQ ENERGY implements an integrated local community’s support program, aiming to ensure dignified living conditions and improve the daily lives of citizens in the areas where it operates. The initiative responds to critical social needs, such as increased demand for basic goods, heating needs, as well as the support of the proper functioning of school units and healthcare structures.
The strategic objective is the development of a coherent and long-term framework for strengthening resilience, improving everyday living conditions and supporting critical social infrastructure. Through targeted partnerships, HELLENiQ ENERGY enhances social cohesion and operates as a reliable partner of local communities, contributing substantially to the improvement of quality of life.
The Program has been implemented over time since its launch in 2012, while over the past three years it has shown significant strengthening and expansion of its activities and its social impact within local communities.
HELLENiQ ENERGY implements an integrated and multi-layered local communities support program, “Energy for Resilient Communities”, which is developed with consistency and continuity, addressing critical everyday needs and contributing to improving the quality of life of citizens in the areas where it operates. The Program constitutes a coherent framework of initiatives with significant and measurable social impact, while also strengthening the operation of key social and public structures.
The “Energy for Resilient Communities” Program is structured around three main pillars:
Support of Social Structures in Neighboring Municipalities
Since 2012, HELLENiQ ENERGY has been supporting social grocery stores and food aid structures in neighboring municipalities of the Thriasio Plain, Western Thessaloniki and Kozani, in cooperation with local authorities and the Holy Metropolises. Through this initiative, stable monthly support is provided to more than 1,700 families. Since the launch of the Program, including through emergency actions, more than 1,000 tons of food and essential goods have been distributed. Over the past three years, support has remained consistently high in volume, confirming the continuity and systematic nature of the intervention.
Interventions to Ensure Optimal Heating Conditions
Within the framework of the Program, HELLENiQ ENERGY consistently implements actions to ensure appropriate heating conditions in schools and social structures in the areas where it operates, supporting their proper functioning. For more than 17 years, over 3,500,000 liters of heating oil have been provided to more than 160 schools, supporting more than 23,000 students annually, while significant quantities are also allocated to social structures of the Church of Greece. At the same time, the Program includes targeted interventions to strengthen the local healthcare system, with emphasis on healthcare institutions in the areas of operation, such as the Thriasio General Hospital of Elefsina, as well as support actions during periods of increased need, contributing to improving care conditions and their operational capacity.
Support of Amateur Sports
Within the Corporate Responsibility Program, HELLENiQ ENERGY consistently invests in strengthening amateur sports, supporting sports clubs and academies in football, basketball and volleyball in the areas where it operates. Through these interventions, more than 6,000 athletes and academy children aged 8–16 are supported annually. This support includes both the provision of sports equipment and long-term financial support to clubs, contributing to the sustainability and development of local sports. At the same time, the Program incorporates scientific support, promoting health and fair play.
In addition, EKO, a subsidiary of HELLENiQ ENERGY, as a long-standing supporter of Greek sports and a stable partner of the Hellenic Basketball Federation for more than a decade, actively supports the implementation of the “Galazolefka Asteria” development program for athletes under the age of 14 and 13 respectively.
Through a dynamic network of actions extending across the country, 15,000 children each year could wear the National Team jersey and engage in their favorite sport in a participatory, modern and educationally beneficial way. The aim of the program is not only to highlight the future stars of Greek basketball, but also—more importantly—to cultivate fair play and shape responsible athletes and citizens.
Furthermore, for athletes who have distinguished themselves for their performance and ethos in regional and local tournaments, EKO, in collaboration with the Hellenic Basketball Federation, organizes annual festivals dedicated to fair play, promoting equal participation for all players and fostering a love for the sport. These festivals are held every year in the areas where HELLENiQ ENERGY operates (Western Attica and Western Thessaloniki), with the participation of 360 athletes.
Through these actions, participation, teamwork and social cohesion are strengthened, acting as a driver for activating the younger generation across Greece, with a particular emphasis on local communities.

In the field of strengthening social cohesion, more than 6,000 adult athletes and academy children benefit annually from the support of amateur sports, while through partnerships at a national level, more than 15,000 children participate each year in organized sports activities.
Beyond quantitative results, the Program contributes to stabilizing living conditions, improving education and healthcare conditions, and strengthening social cohesion and the active participation of citizens in local communities.

The implementation of the “Energy for Resilient Communities” Program is based on an extensive and long-standing network of partnerships with institutional, social and local stakeholders, ensuring effectiveness, sustainability and the targeted coverage of the real needs of local communities.
A central role is played by Local Government Authorities in the areas where HELLENiQ ENERGY operates, such as the Municipalities of Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, Mandra–Eidyllia, Megara, Ampelokipoi–Menemeni, Delta and Kozani, with which HELLENiQ ENERGY closely collaborates to map needs and implement interventions in social structures and schools.
At the same time, cooperation with the Holy Metropolis of Neapoli and Stavroupoli and the Holy Metropolis of Megara and Salamina strengthens the operation of food aid and social support structures, ensuring direct access to vulnerable groups.
In the field of healthcare, the Program is developed in collaboration with public healthcare institutions, such as the Thriasio General Hospital of Elefsina, as well as with bodies of the National Health System and the National Emergency Aid Center (EKAB), contributing to the strengthening of infrastructure and their operational readiness.
Furthermore, under the sports pillar, cooperation with local sports clubs and the Hellenic Basketball Federation, through the subsidiary EKO, acts as a multiplier for the implementation of wide-reaching programs such as “Galazolefka Asteria”, which enhance youth participation and promote the values of sport.
Through this multi-layered network of partnerships, HELLENiQ ENERGY acts as a catalyst for the creation of a cohesive social support ecosystem, strengthening synergies between the public and private sectors and civil society organizations, while maximizing the social impact of its corporate responsibility programs and initiatives.
