Halyps Building Materials SA, Italcementi Group subsidiary in Greece, is activated in cement activity under the brand name “Halyps Cement”, in aggregates activity under "Halyps Quarries" and in the concrete activity under "Et Beton".

The main objective of the project is to create an isolated storage area, which would not only improve the production process but, also, eliminate dust dispersion, gases emissions and avoid groundwater contamination.
This investment put into practice the fundamental policy of our company for the protection of the environment and the health of local community, consistently with our commitment towards sustainable development.
About 2 years
The project started in November 2011 and was finalized in the mid of September 2013 with the cooperation of more than 10 technical companies, operating under the most effective safety standards. Each of these sealed silos is 46 m high with a diameter of 14 m and 3.500 m3 capacity and accommodates materials such as pet coke, gypsum, perlite, coarse gravel and limestone. The whole construction is based on a concrete foundation platform which is anchored at 45 m under the sea level. Pioneer methods and materials were used for the construction, such as a system of slipping formwork and concrete.
The five new silos, with 3,500m3 capacity each, are used to store solid combustibles and raw materials of total volume 17,500m3. According to the environmental study for the project, the emissions reduction is 279,523 kilograms per year. The impact on the neighbor town, companies and employees working in the plant is evident and valuable.
Halyps cement plant in Aspropyrgos
On Wednesday 27th November 2013, our company performed a special ceremony for the inauguration of the five silos. The event was realized at the presence of high governmental authorities and with the participation of Italcementi Group’s top management as well as of employees of all activities of the Group in Greece.
Considering safety of the personnel as a fundamental value, the company aimed at the highest level of awareness during the construction of the silos. In a project where more than 150 employees were occupied, in extremely risky working conditions such as 50 meters height, we were happy to complete the project with only one minor severity injury. The effort for safety does not stop, but adopting safe behavior during daily activities of each individual we proceed making “safety: a way of living”.
Despite the difficult economic scenario, Halyps Cement and Italcementi Group completed a project that underlines the Group’s strong commitment to make its Greek operations more efficient and represents a further step towards sustainability as it will significantly improve the plant’s environmental performance in accordance with the company’s strategic industrial plan.
