Duration

From 2020 onwards.

Description

The paper packaging of bagged cements is discarded after incorporating their contents into the produced mixture (concrete, cement mortar or other). Consumers are encouraged to put empty packaging in recycling bins. But in construction sites far from the urban fabric that consume large quantities of bagged cement, the bad practice of empty bags ending up in makeshift dumps is often observed.

In 2020, TITANAS launched an innovative cement product in the 40 kg green package on the Greek market. The innovation of the product lies in its advanced technology paper packaging, which when it comes into contact with water, completely disintegrates. The innovative product catalyzes a change in the market habit, allowing cement to be mixed together with the packaging in the production complexes of construction sites, without discarding the paper packaging. Complete mixing of the green packaging with water and aggregates in the production units is achieved immediately, providing a fully homogenized end product with no collateral waste generation. For the first time in the Greek market, the "waste" is integrated into the final product and provides improved technical characteristics, since the fibers of the paper packaging give better rheological properties and reduce the appearance of cracks in the construction.

Impact on Society

The impact of the initiative on the target audience is substantial. Technical companies that undertake projects outside the urban fabric avoid the management of empty packaging and do not burden the environment. For example, in a medium-sized project consuming 1,000 tons of bagged cement, the need to manage 4 tons of empty paper bags is avoided. Considering that projects of this type mainly concern the construction of roads or flood protection infrastructure in forest areas, the impact of innovation on environmental protection is particularly important.
