Objective Action

The aim of the training seminar was two-fold:

a) to inform and raise awareness among the education actors involved, stakeholders and education policy makers on the issues related to the Right to Inclusive and Equitable Education, and to numerous UNESCO initiatives that promote i, particularly at a time of key and critical nature due to the impact of COVID-19, contributing to active global citizenship and promotion of sustainability in education through digital transformation and life-long quality education.

b) the presentation at the seminar of the research results on the 17 objectives of sustainable development and in particular of quality education, under the supervision of the Chair and its scientific collaborators (mentoring), by 42 young students, undergraduate or postgraduate, of the University of Macedonia and other Greek Universities, who during the pandemic chose to volunteer for a two-month online traineeship at the UNESCO Chair. The young trainees first were trained in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and then trained in research on UNESCO Educational initiatives and their impact on Greece by the UNESCO Headquarters and its research associates, so that during the seminar :

- on the one hand, trainees interacted with reputable academics, experts and civil society representatives and better understood their lecture,

- on the other hand, as young speakers, trainees addressed the young people who attended the seminar and presented with their own voice and their own presentation their research on the 17 goals of sustainable development with emphasis on quality education without exclusion.

 

Target Audience

The seminar was designed for teachers at all levels, education actors, students, academics and researchers, local authorities (regions and municipalities) and more broadly for an active civil society collectively.

 

Duration

The 21-hour online training seminar took place in three days from 16: 00-22: 00 on: 24 May, 31 May and 7 June 2021.


Description

The UNESCO Chair of Intercultural Policy for an Active Citizenship and Solidarity at the University of Macedonia, organized a three-day open online educational seminar of 21 hours entitled: "UNESCO actions for Inclusive and Equitable Education under the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" as part of the Chair's participation in the UNESCO public consultation on the future of education on the initiative "Futures of Education: Learning to Become" as well as on the UNESCO Chairs' collaborative initiative "UNESCO Chairs for Sustainable Futures". 

Ms Ekaterini Tzitzikosta, President of the National Commission for UNESCO in Greece, opened the proceedings by giving welcome remarks. Distinguished lectures and contributions were presented in the seminar from well-established academics, bodies and representatives of international and European institutions as well as in the field of education, researchers and research associates of the Chair.

The 21-hour seminar was held in three consecutive Mondays and its structure is tripartite with topics broken down into 14 sessions:

Workers Participation

The participation of the 42 trainees in the internship of the UNESCO Headquarters was voluntary, as well as their participation in the three-day web seminar on the dissemination of their research.

The participation of all speakers was also voluntary.

1. Training and mentoring of 42 trainees of the UNESCO Chair of Intercultural Policy in UN SDGs and especially for inclusive education and certification of their research and lecturing in the seminar by issuing 42 Certificates to them.

9. Collaboration with the UNESCO Youth Club of Thessaloniki  in the "Together" Program, for the integration of immigrants, refugees in higher education.
