Objective Action

The Conference and the Seminar were organized in the framework of the Jean Monnet EU Vadis program of the University of Macedonia with the aim of strengthening the dialogue on intercultural dialogue, EU values ​​and diversity, in order to prepare citizens, future political and economic leaders, as well as public opinion leaders and legislators.

Both seeked to stimulate research, reflection and dialogue in the field of European integration studies, in particular EU values, diversity and intercultural dialogue.

Finally, they aimed to increase cooperation between universities, research institutes, international organizations and institutions and civil society in the EU that will enhance the skills of teachers and researchers and meet the needs of society.

 

Target Audience

Throughout the educational, academic community, the wider local civil society and the European and international community.

 

Duration

Preparatory stage: February - March 2020

Implementation stage: November -December 2020

Final stage: June 2021-June 2022


Description

A.  The Jean Monnet EUVaDiS Program "Strengthening the Debate on Intercultural Dialogue, EU Values ​​and Diversity" of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair of Intercultural Policy for an Active Citizenship and Solidarity organized the International Conference entitled:

"The role of intercultural dialogue in the management of diversity in Europe" on November 18 and 19 from 16:00 to 20:30 Greek time. The conference was co-organized with the UNESCO Chair in Intercultural Policy for an Active and Solidarity Citizenship of the University of Macedonia. It included 4 sessions on the following topics:

1. Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue in Europe - EU Citizens and Others

2. Cultural Diversity-Reconciling differences

3. Intercultural Education-New perspectives and good practices

4. Interreligious Dialogue

B. A 25-hour online seminar was organized on the following topics:

1. Intercultural Dialogue in the EU

2. Prerequisites for intercultural dialogue: fundamental rights, democracy, pluralism, equality

3. Challenges of diversity in the EU: Religion and interfaith dialogue

4. Intercultural education

5. Hate Speech, Hate Crimes, Freedom and Tolerance

Impact on Society

Attendance by about 350 participants of both the Conference and the Seminar with the issuance of a certificate.

Promoting and demonstrating the importance of Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue in multicultural European societies but also in the wider international community to meet new challenges.

Empowering Young People to participate in activities, conferences and forums related to Intercultural Dialogue and Youth, Intercultural Cities, Intercultural Skills.

Creation of a Working Group for inclusion of the University of Macedonia in the University Network "MIL network Universities" for the promotion of Intercultural Dialogue and creation of synergies with other university institutions, local government and civil society.
