Objective Action

Promote volunteerism and teamwork through environmental protection actions. Educate employees, engage local communities, and transfer knowledge to students. Commitment to plant 30,000 trees in Greece by 2030, part of the AZ Forest program.

 

Target Audience

AstraZeneca employees (internal audience), students, local communities, municipalities, general public.

 

Duration

2019–2024 (ongoing until 2030).


Description

The “Protecting the Environment with Actions” initiative is a long-term program with strong employee volunteer participation. Actions implemented:

  • 2019: Clean-up of 5 beaches (Schinias, Peraia, Kastelekampos, Nees Pagases, Nea Alikarnassos).
  • 2020: Reforestation in Neos Voutzas with 200 young trees.
  • 2021: Energy upgrade with 20 solar-powered LED columns in parks in Athens and Thessaloniki.
  • 2022: Educational seminars for 1,150 students in 23 schools (Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa, Patras, Heraklion).
  • 2023: 4,000 trees planted.
  • 2024: 8,000 trees planted in Athens & Thessaloniki.

Commitment: 30,000 trees by 2030.

Impact on Society

  • Beach clean-up: 1,750 m coastline, 450 kg waste, 20 kg recyclables.
  • Reforestation: 12,000 trees planted by 2024, generating ~468,000 kg oxygen annually at maturity.
  • Education: 1,150 students reached with environmental seminars.
  • Participation: 176 employees in clean-ups, 211 in reforestation, 250 in total volunteering.
