Objective Action

The development of a Geographic Information System (GIS), for the management of satellite and terrestrial Earth Observation Data and their associated properties, in order to monitor the coastal zones of Region of Central Macedonia and the effects of coastal erosion.

Description

The purpose of the project is to support a comprehensive plan for the management of the coastal zones of Region of Central Macedonia, through the provision of specialized services. The objectives of this plan are:

-The creation of an Observatory of Oceanographic Erosion Parameters, which will operate as a hub for the collection and dissemination of specialized data - land observation products, in the coastal zone of Region of Central Macedonia.

-Development of an integrated methodology and special tools required for the identification of areas of high risk of coastal erosion and the simulation of the risk of erosion under the influence of Climate Change

-Evaluation of alternative coastal zone development strategies, fully compatible with the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM)

-The collection of Satellite Data of land Observation with medium, high and very high spatial resolution, and merged images from different sources, for utilizing their capabilities: upgrading spatial scale, and physical interpretation of data from land observation.

-The long-term monitoring of coastal erosion in the light of Climate Variability and Climate Change, through the creation and use of time series of satellite images.

-The assessment of coastal vulnerability to erosion and the identification of high risk zones at the spatial boundaries of Region of Central Macedonia.

-The assessment of coastal vulnerability to erosion and the identification of high risk zones at the spatial boundaries of Region of Central Macedonia

-Simulation and calculation of erosion in pilot study areas using advanced models.

-The use of erosion models for the reassessment of erosion in pilot areas, in the case of different technical solutions as the most documented way of evaluating the proposed measures and strategies.
