Our ambition is to be one of the best performing, most trusted and respected consumer products companies in the world. To achieve this we must build the trust and respect of everyone that comes into contact with our company, alongside winning in the right way.
Our Code of Business Conduct applies to everyone working for Diageo worldwide, regardless of location, role, or level of seniority. We expect those representing and acting on behalf of Diageo, including temporary and contract employees, consultants, agents, and any other third party acting in our name, to do so in accordance with the principles of our Code.
Our Code is not a once off activity but on an ongoing team effort of living our values while having a great business performance. However, specific activities e.g. our local Diageo Hellas Compliance day initiative just started this year and it is something we will continue as we have seen its effectiveness. Also our “Master the Code” e-learning was launched in 2016 and will continue in this new format. Each year a set of activities are agreed to continue our journey in Mastering the Code.
In today’s connected world, our individual actions have the potential to impact Diageo globally, both positively and negatively. To reinforce our behaviors we have established our Code of Business Conduct that sets out the way we work, our commitments and what is expected of each of us. Our Code is a resource to support us in translating our values into actions and guide us in our daily activities.
What is our Code of Business Conduct (our Code)?
Our commitment to conducting our business and ourselves in the right way, detailing the minimum standards we all must follow.
It doesn’t address every situation we may face, but it gives us guidance, and advice on where we can go to for help and how to raise a concern.
Why do we have a Code of Business Conduct?
It gives us a globally consistent way of behavior, and holds us all to the same principles and standards, so we can achieve our goal of being the most trusted and respected consumer products company in the world
By each of us abiding by our Code we help protect Diageo’s reputation.
Whose responsibility is it to follow the Code?
It is the personal responsibility of each and every one of us, no matter what our role or level in the company.
Key messages - underpinning our Code:
We are proud of what we do and how we do it.
We care about our business and are committed to the highest standards of business ethics and behavior.
Values Survey: The Values Survey is the most important measure we have to tell us how well we are living the values in Diageo, our commitment to the Performance Ambition, it's behaviours and our purpose of Celebrating Life, Every day, Everywhere. The results provide insight into our strengths and priorities for improvement.
Latest (2016) GAR internal audit – Satisfactory rating. Other than auditing specific processes within the market, Compliance interviews were carried out. An outcome of the audit was that our people have a good level of understanding of our policies, standards and guidelines and also they have embedded the Code within their day to day activities.
No breaches of our Code have been reported.

Our newly launched Code e-learning, reaching out to everyone worldwide and our local Compliance Day was fundamental in reaching our goal. We “Mastered the Code”.
Our Diageo Hellas Compliance day involved all local employees in what was to be a very engaging, well connected full day training of Global Key Policies & Standards (Anti-money laundering, Competition & Antitrust, Anti-corruption & Trade Incentives, Diageo Marketing Code, Information Management & Data Protection). Our Leadership team demonstrated their full commitment by leading all sessions. True ambassadors in setting the tone of our Compliance & Ethics program.
With Master the Code, we took a unique journey through the sections of our Code, exploring game zones and scenario-based assessments. Master the Code is based on a practical approach to ensure the learning is engaging, leading to genuine knowledge transfer and performance improvement in the workplace. Diageo Hellas truly mastered the mandatory e-learning course with a 100% completion score.
All the above metrics ensure that all employees and 3rd parties of Diageo Hellas (customers & suppliers) act with integrity and demonstrate exemplary conduct in all their business interactions. All employees feel personally connected to, and accountable for, our reputation.
