Objective Action

Recognizing the importance of the community and responding to its needs, ELLAKTOR Group undertakes initiatives to support society and vulnerable social groups.

Corporate social responsibility actions, as an expression of support for society and environmental protection, primarily aim to provide substantial assistance to those in need, improve the daily lives of people, support environmental and social initiatives, and safeguard the planet's future.

However these actions, they must not be isolated acts of giving but should be cultivated with consistency and continuity, highlighting the value of systematic, collective effort and the power of collaboration for a more sustainable way of living.

The expression of social responsibility extends beyond actions. It involves shaping and establishing a culture of voluntary contribution and collective effort, a continuous pursuit of mental and physical health, harmonious coexistence without discrimination, personal and professional development for all, innovation, the promotion of a modern lifestyle, and systematic care for the environment. This way, we can envision a sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.

ELLAKTOR Group, with a new identity titled "Whole Living," continues its Corporate Social Responsibility program, expressing the Group's values, philosophy, and mission: We live together in harmony, act together for the environment and society, offer and support each other.

Under this philosophy, voluntary initiatives and actions implemented within the sustainable development strategy are categorized into four main pillars aiming to support society, promote equality, improve daily life and quality of life, protect the environment, and safeguard the planet's future through collective effort and cooperation.

More specifically, the program includes the actions of the "Living Green" pillar, through which the protection of the environment and the response to the climate crisis are sought, with the aim of ensuring sustainability for future generations. The actions of the "Living Smart" pillar, which promote a modern lifestyle using innovation and technology. The actions of the "Living Well" pillar aiming at encouraging good physical and mental health and improving people's well-being. And finally the actions of the "Living Together" pillar for a life without discrimination, promoting equal opportunities, inclusion, personal and professional development, and supporting vulnerable groups.

The aim of the actions and initiatives of "Whole Living" is also to highlight the value of partnerships for sustainable development, in order to address global challenges and to establish strong multi-stakeholder alliances and partnerships at the international, national and local level with different participants and multiple benefits.

Description

ELLAKTOR Group, as part of its program for social contribution and in recognition of the company’s volunteerism month, which has been institutionalized since 2021, carried out actions over the past three years aimed at supporting those in need as well as protecting the environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Proof of employee engagement in this effort was the doubling of volunteer hours in 2022. The initiatives carried out include, among others:

  • Strengthening its collaboration with the NGO Make-A-Wish Greece since 2016, ELLAKTOR Group carried out the volunteer initiative "Grant-A-Wish" in 2021, 2022, and 2023. In this program, participants help fulfill the wishes of children aged 3-18 who suffer from crtitical diseases. Over these three years, the Group adopted a total of 17 wishes, with the implementation assigned to employee teams from its subsidiary companies. This initiative took place at the Group's headquarters, where Make-A-Wish Greece’s Christmas and Easter Bazaars are also hosted annually to further support the organization’s mission.
  • As part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives with environmental volunteer actions aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change, ELLAKTOR Group collaborated with the environmental organization We4All to carry out its first symbolic tree-planting event in the Paiania area at the foothills of Mount Hymettus. In 2023, a second volunteer tree-planting event took place in the Varympompi area, which has been severely affected by destructive fires in Attica. Dozens of new saplings were planted with the support of Group volunteers and their families.
  • In 2022, ELLAKTOR Group employees actively participated in the Hope Boxes program in collaboration with Wise Greece, voting to select three organizations to receive a total of 550 Hope Boxes. As part of this initiative, ELLAKTOR representatives, accompanied by members of the Hellenic Swimming Federation and national team athletes, visited the SOS Children’s Villages in Vari, delivering a powerful message of social solidarity and love. They decorated the village’s Christmas tree with wish cards created by ELLAKTOR employees. In 2023, the Group donated 600 Hope Boxes, which were sent to the Social Grocery of Kalamata and the Social Grocery of Ano Liosia.
  • In line with its goal to enhance quality and accessible education for all in the local communities where it operates, ELLAKTOR Group responded to a request from the 3rd Primary School of Magoula, Attica, by collecting 300 books to support the school's newly established library. The books were donated by employees. This initiative aimed to enrich the school library, strengthen its role as an educational tool, and create a model space that would become an integral part of the learning process for the school’s 170 young students.
  • Recognizing the severe humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and aiming to provide immediate relief to those affected, ELLAKTOR Group decided to support the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) initiative to collect and send essential supplies. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Ukrainian Consulate, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and the organization "Pharmacists of the World." With the help of Group employees, a total of 50 boxes containing food, clothing, and pharmaceutical supplies were gathered, packed, and delivered to Thessaloniki City Hall and designated authorities to provide relief to people in Ukraine.
  • Responding once again to the Red Cross's call regarding the humanitarian crisis caused by the major earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and wishing to contribute to the support and relief of those affected, ELLAKTOR Group bolstered its initiative to collect and send essential supplies. Items donated by Group employees were packed and transported with the help of employee volunteers to the warehouses of the Hellenic Red Cross.
  • In collaboration with Smart Park, ELLAKTOR Group supported the Red Cross campaign to gather and send essential supplies to flood victims in Thessaly. Over 100 boxes of food and water were collected at both the Group's headquarters and Smart Park. The donated items were sorted, packed, and transported by employee volunteers to the Hellenic Red Cross warehouses for distribution to those affected by the devastating floods in Thessaly. Through these actions, the Group aims to assist in relieving those impacted and improving their daily lives during these challenging times.
  • For the first time in 2023, ELLAKTOR Group, with 100 employees and their families, participated in the Greece Race for the Cure 2023, aiming to raise awareness and provide information about breast cancer.
  • ELLAKTOR Group’s employees actively participate in organized voluntary blood donations. Specifically, the companies ATTIKI ODOS and ATTIKES DIADROMES have maintained a Blood Bank since 2004, accessible to all employees and their families in times of need. Participation in this blood donation program is notably high every year. Additionally, at the company HELECTOR, an employee blood donor association has been established at the mechanical recycling and composting plant (EMAK). In collaboration with Evangelismos Hospital, blood donation are conducted twice a year through the hospital’s mobile unit, which visits the plant. Finally, in 2022, ELLAKTOR Group's Occupational Health unit, in partnership with the Blood Donation Center of “ELPIS” Hospital, organized the first Blood Donation Day at the Group's headquarters, with the goal of creating and maintaining a Blood Bank through regular voluntary donations by Group employees, a practice that has continued with increasing frequency in subsequent years.

Employees embraced the volunteer initiatives organized by the Group, demonstrating that teamwork, volunteerism, and selfless contribution are key to creating a better and sustainable future for all.

Benefits for Οrganization

ELLAKTOR Group encourages its employees to participate in volunteer initiatives it organizes, aiming to support both the wider and local communities in which it operates. Employee involvement in these volunteer actions has brought numerous benefits to the Group.

The Group has recognized that by providing employees with opportunities for volunteer work, they gain a sense of purpose and fulfillment, which has led to higher levels of commitment and dedication. This, in turn, has resulted in increased productivity and greater satisfaction among stakeholders.

Volunteer programs not only boost employee engagement but also offer opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge that can be applied both personally and professionally. These skills include leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving—competencies that contribute to both professional advancement and personal growth.

Volunteering has fostered a sense of community and connection among employees. By forming volunteer teams, colleagues who do not typically work together have had the chance to collaborate and form new relationships. This has created a more positive work environment where employees feel more connected to each other and to the Group itself. This sense of community has cultivated a more positive corporate culture, leading to significant benefits in employee engagement and job satisfaction.
