Objective Action

TITAN is at the forefront of initiatives aimed at net zero and is constantly accelerating its green transition. A milestone in TITAN’s decarbonization journey is the €26 million investment in the pre-calciner unit at the Kamari plant.

Target Audience

The green investment will yield multiple benefits for TITAN and the entire value chain of its products, across both domestic and international markets, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable growth and innovation.

Duration

The pre-calciner unit at the Kamari plant has been operational since May 2023.

Description

The €26 million green investment at the Kamari cement plant in Boeotia marks a significant milestone in TITAN’s decarbonization program. The investment entailed the installation of state-of-the-art pre-calciner technology, which is now fully operational at the plant. Highlighting the Group's commitment to sustainability, strategic growth, and innovation, the implementation of this strategic investment demonstrates TITAN Group's ability to deliver demanding projects with precision, timeliness, and exceptional quality.

The upgrade of the cement production line is part of a larger industrial transformation that will be completed with the implementation of the "IFESTOS" carbon capture project. This is the largest project of its kind in Europe, which will capture all carbon emissions from the Kamari plant's production process, producing 3 million tonnes of net zero cement. The IFESTOS project, which has already secured a €234 million grant from the EU Innovation Fund, will contribute significantly to the achievement of the national targets for tackling climate change and will enhance the competitiveness and extroversion of the Greek industry.

The achievements to-date and the initiatives that will make the Kamari plant one of the largest fully digitalized and green cement plants in Europe by 2030 were presented by the Chair of TITAN Group Mr. Dimitri Papalexopoulos, the Chair of the Group Executive Committee, Mr. Marcel Cobuz, and the General Manager of TITAN Cement SA, Mr. Angelos Kalogerakos. The presentation took place in the context of an event at the Kamari plant, attended by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis, the Minister of Development, Mr. Konstantinos Skrekas, and representatives of the Local Authorities and the Media.

Impact on Society

The pre-calciner technology enables the plant to effectively utilize alternative fuels and reduce its dependency on fossil fuels. This brings multiple benefits, not only for the plant itself but also for the surrounding Attica region. It plays a significant role in promoting a comprehensive waste management solution, actively encouraging recycling, and embracing the principles of the circular economy. At a national level, this investment and our net zero roadmap will contribute to the achievement of the target set by Greece, in the framework of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP).

Initiative Location

The integration of the new pre-calciner technology took place at the Kamari cement plant in Boeotia.

Working with Organization

Workers Participation

The project was implemented with active participation from TITAN employees.

Benefits for Οrganization

The integration of the new pre-calciner technology allows TITAN to expand its range of lower carbon cements, meeting the increasing demand from customers in Europe and the USA. This advancement not only improves the plant's efficiency and competitiveness but also aligns with its commitment to reducing CO2 emissions. With the new installation, TITAN expects to achieve an annual CO2 reduction of approximately 150,000 tons, contributing to its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
