Lamda Development is the undisputed leader in the shopping centres management sector (The Mall Athens, Golden Hall, Mediterranean Cosmos). Lamda Development has undertaken the integrated metropolitan redevelopment of the area of the former ‘Hellinikon’ airport, which will be the largest private investment in Greece and the largest urban redevelopment project in Europe.

Objective Action

The undertaking of the project by Lamda Development was done in agreement with the Deputy Ministry of Sports, in the context of the replacement of the existing sports facilities of the National Youth Sports Center of Agios Kosmas located within the Metropolitan Pole Hellinikon-Ag. Cosmas.

The upgrading of OAKA's facilities breathes new life into the region.

In conjunction with the operation of the Olympic Museum of Athens in the Golden Hall, which was also created by Lamda Development, an additional goal of the initiative is to make the area around OAKA once again a sports and tourist destination as part of the modern history of the Olympics Games. The initiative is part of the wider planning of Lamda Development, for the promotion of Attica as a destination of global scope and Pole of Sports and Culture

Description

The OAKA Olympic Aquatic Center is expected to acquire four new swimming pools and top world-class water sports infrastructure immediately, following the relevant agreement between Lamda Development and the Deputy Ministry of Sports. As part of the project, which is already underway and expected to be completed within the next few months, Lamda Development undertakes the full financing and reconstruction of the relevant infrastructure, creating for the first time since 2004, one of the most modern water sports centers in the country. The initiative comes to support the efforts of athletes and clubs, confirming Lamda Development's broader vision of creating sports facilities accessible to all, helping to spread the sports ideal throughout the country.

As part of the initiative, Lamda Development undertakes the financing and execution of the following renovation/reconstruction projects as a whole:

Open athletics areas:

  • removal of swimming pool stands, accesses and insulation restorations, etc.,
  • removal of diving boards, replacement of diving pool with a new stainless one with reduced depth to 2.2 m.,
  • construction of a new swimming pool of approximately 20x25 dimensions, 2m deep. behind a diving board,
  • reconstruction of a learning pool (PWD) and installation of a polycarbonate telescopic roof over it,
  • creation of changing rooms & sanitary facilities,
  • installation of new central pool lighting

Indoor athletics:

  • installation of new indoor diving lighting,
  • maintenance of the latter's air conditioning system and its autonomy,
  • renovation of a dry training area, building and IT repair of sauna areas and changing rooms,
  • construction of new lockers in the indoor pool.

At the same time, the three Master Control Centers, unused since the 2004 Olympic Games until today, will be disconnected from their bases in the central Stadium, 125 sq.m. each, and will be relocated to the K1 and K2 athletics training rooms to create locker rooms, which do not exist. Also, Lamda Development will supply OAKA with two electric cars, for easier movement of Management and employees within the surrounding areas of the facilities.

Impact on Society

The project of renovation and reconstruction of the facilities of the Olympic Aquatic Center in OAKA, as well as the creation of new infrastructure in the area, is essentially the first, after 2004, intervention of maintenance, reconstruction and construction of a new facility at the landmark for the country's sports, Olympiakos Sports Center of Athens "Spyros Louis". Now, the needs of many clubs, the National Aquatics Teams and the Federation will be fully met by using the newly renovated, modern facilities of the OAKA. At the same time, in the initiative there is a special care for the disabled, including the reconstruction and finally the creation of a modern, special specifications and large dimensions, covered swimming pool for the disabled. In addition, thanks to the project implemented by Lamda Development, important infrastructures of the Olympic Aquatic Center in OAKA will now also function for competitions (and not only for training) as with the removal of the metal structures of the stands, the facilities will be able to host events.
