Objective Action

M.J. MAILLIS SINGLE MEMBER S.A. is one of the top steel strap producers in the world. Steel strap is considered one of the most sustainable products in packaging as it can be 100% recycled.

The aim of the initiative was the need to harmonize our company with the requirements of the New Climate Law (4936/2022) as well as the drawing up of our corporate strategy with the aim of dealing with climate change, minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and taking actions that will lead to the reduction of the carbon footprint of our products.

A necessary condition for achieving the above objectives is the calculation of the carbon footprint and the verification of the results by an accredited body. In this way, measurable and verifiable results will be created that will form the basis for monitoring the effectiveness of our future environmental investments.

Target Audience

The program is addressed to the company's employees but mainly to external stakeholders (customers, partners, local community, audit authorities) and confirms the company's commitment to strengthen its competitiveness through the production of sustainable products while simultaneously protecting the environment and saving natural resources.

Duration

Three months

1. In initially performing the calculation of carbon dioxide emissions for the reference year (2019) based on the requirements of the ISO 14064-1 standard and the standard methodology proposed by the UNFCC, World Resources Institute & World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

2. In the development of Procedures and forms for the annual calculation of greenhouse gas emissions.

3. The development of a target setting program for the reduction of emissions.

4. Compiling a results report based on the requirements of the ISO 14064-1 standard.

5. In the verification of the results of the greenhouse gas emission report in the reference year (2019), by an accredited verification body (TUV AUSTRIA).

Benefits for Οrganization

Improving competitiveness by producing more environmentally friendly products.

The emissions calculated include carbon dioxide emissions and equivalent emissions (N2O, CH4, HFC) namely:

The direct emissions which include combustion emissions from the operation of each activity and for heating the building or emissions from the use of the vehicle fleet and other possible uses, and emissions that are likely to result from the processes carried out (production of carbon dioxide carbon from processes), methane and nitrous oxide emissions from the operation of the activity if they exist and can be measured as well as HFCs from air conditioners if they exist.
The indirect emissions from the company's activities, which mainly include the use of electricity for the operation of the company's buildings.

The table below presents the results for the reference year 2019.
