Objective Action

The Bank was selected as the Restoration and Reforestation Contractor, funding the implementation of anti-erosion and flood-prevention projects in the fire affected areas of Chios island following the June and August 2025 wildfires, with a contribution of €1.3 million.

Description

The projects are related to the immediate response and limitation of soil erosion to protect the fire-affected area from further degradation, given that the specific fire-affected area corresponds to 114 thousand acres, i.e. 15% of the total area of Chios island. To date, the works include the construction of over 180 kilometers and 500 square meters of protection barriers. The project is being carried out by forestry cooperative organizations, with the participation of 50 forest workers, under the supervision of a special forester and the coordination of the Chios Forestry Department.
