VALENTINA VASILATOU CONSCIOUS SWIMWEAR

BUSINESS: 382 PRACTICES
A new Greek swimwear brand, with an artistic approach and ecological fabrics.
This brand cares and protests about the environment through fashion and art.
Synthetic (plastic & nylon) fabric has excellent properties for the purpose it is used for and is therefore an essential choice. However, its production process and its waste pollute the environment.
The key change that needs to happen is our evolution into conscious producers and conscious consumers.
Our swimwear is made from recycled and regenerated fabrics. An innovative textile manufacturing technique that reuses plastic waste into new products.
In partnership with Healthy Seas, a non-profit Eco organization, we aim to minimize our environmental footprint. Healthy Seas collects ghost fishing nets through underwater clean-ups and regenerates them into brand new nylon thread, which we use for our swimwear. They work with volunteers in Greece and many other countries around the world and we support them with 1% of our sales revenue.
The collected nylon webs are first cleaned and then transported to a factory where they are regenerated along with other nylon waste, into ECONYL® yarn. The yarn is then woven to produce the fabrics we use.
We use the best quality Italian fabrics to ensure quality and durability. These fabrics are certified by Aquafil and OEKO TEX, for reasons of validity and transparency.
We produce our swimwear locally and adjust production volume based on popularity and interest, with an online store and a few retail outlets to control stock and waste. We provide a small inventory, but additionally provide customers with the ability to express interest in reproducing our non-inventories.
In addition, all complementary items produced, such as accessories and packaging, are environmentally friendly (biodegradable, recycled, regenerated or organic) and are accredited by Eco Textiles Certifications.
We supply our products in their complementary cases but, in terms of additional packaging, we leave the option to the consumer to request an additional recycled box. In this way, we eliminate all waste.
Finally, as fashion has a life cycle and changing trends, we offer recycling or repurposing of your swimwear. Consumers will be able to return swimwear they no longer use to us, encouraging the minimization of environmental waste.
A conscious consumer is one who is well informed and chooses what to buy based on all factors of a production chain. To reassure you and prove that we take all these matters seriously, we have official partnerships with many like-minded companies and organizations.
A swimwear company with a profile of eco-consciousness and action through art and fashion.
My target consumer group is women aged 25-45, middle/upper class, who want to stand out and at the same time are ecologically aware.
First production will be completed in February and sales will begin in spring 2021.
My company, following the innovation of the textile industry, will use recycled fabrics created from plastic waste. In this way, it will help to unclog the environment from plastic bottles that have washed up on the shores, and from the nets that have remained on the seabed.
In addition, the rest of the necessary materials for the manufacture of the clothes will be ecological. For example, threads, tires and accessories, will be either recycled or certified with the ecological production process by EOKO TEXT STANDARD., as well as even the packaging will be recycled or biodegradable. Regarding the volume of production, I plan to adjust it according to demand, starting with online store and choosing few stores as sales points, to achieve stock & waste control. Finally, as fashion has a life cycle and changing trends, I will offer to recycle my swimwear. That is, the consumer will have the option of returning my company's swimwear, with a profit for the environment in avoiding waste, and a profit for himself in the reduction of costs in the next purchase.
I'm in the first production stage, so no results yet.
Athens, Greece.
The company will support the Healthy Seas organization, which organizes voluntary actions to collect waste from Greek and foreign seas, with a symbolic amount from the proceeds. The collected plastics will be sent to Italy, where the Carvico and Jersey Lomellina factory is located, and will be used as raw material for the production of the recycled fabrics that my company will supply.
At an initial stage, the production and distribution sectors will be covered by collaborations with other businesses and freelancers.
Over the years, my goal is to build my own production chain as well, investing in machinery and permanent staff.
