Paleo Faliro is a coastal district of the South Sector of Athens, southwest of the center of Athens. Its area is 4.6 square kilometers, while the length of its Saronikos beach is about 4 km. It is about 9 km from the center of Athens (connected to Syngrou Avenue), 13 km from the port of Piraeus (connected with Poseidonos Avenue) and approximately 40 kilometers from Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport.

Paleo Faliro is located on the southern side of the prefecture of Attica and borders the municipalities of Kallithea (west-north, bounded by Syngrou Avenue), Nea Smyrni (north-northeast), Agios Dimitrios (east) and Alimos (east-southeast, bounded the Rema of Picrodaphni). The beach of Palaio Faliros is mainly south-west oriented.

Objective Action

In the context of the digital transformation of the Municipality of Palaio Faliro, which is one of the main objectives of the municipal authority's strategy, the possibility of receiving digital certificates via the municipality's website has been completed. In an effort to deal with bureaucracy and better serve the public, the municipality proceeded to provide the service of issuing a series of certificates and supporting documents through its website, without requiring the physical presence of the applicants. In fact, the unprecedented conditions of the pandemic led to the acceleration of the procedures for the immediate implementation of this digital service provision.

Citizens and businesses can now submit the relevant request through the website of the Municipality at https://aitimata.palaiofaliro.gr/, saving time and avoiding confusion and inconvenience. The objective of the municipal authority is to expand and upgrade digital services by promoting innovation in administrative procedures in order to provide quality services to all. Taking advantage of TIC[1] and the innovative administrative practices they offer, this specific initiative has become feasible, which contributes to the achievement of better governance, the internal functioning of services and the provision of better quality services to the public.

In addition, the objective of this action is to change the culture of both the human resources of the municipality and the users in terms of the adoption of new practices that will lead to changes in the way of fulfilling the mission of the municipality through activities and procedures adapted to the developments and requirements in the socio-economic becoming. Particular importance is given to the development and implementation of actions aimed at serving the citizen and increasing trust and satisfaction of his needs.

Target Audience

It can either be the general public and/or citizens and businesses. Especially to anyone interested who wishes to receive a certificate or any confirmation (certificate of approval) from the competent services of the municipality of Palaio Faliro.

 

Duration

The initiative in question has been implemented since 2020 with the prospect of expansion and improvement in more areas of public service.


Description

Through the Citizen Requests Platform on the Palaio Faliro Municipality Website (https://palaiofaliro.gr-https://aitimata.palaiofaliro.gr) citizens have the option of issuing certificates, administrative acts & documents electronically. Issuing is done with Taxis Net passwords. The requested document is sent either electronically (photocopy or using a digital signature) or by post, or he receives it himself from the municipality. Operating Instructions have been posted on the Platform. It is possible to add a comment, display a list of requests and track their progress, as well as edit the requester's "Profile" (editing personal information).

For each case, the necessary supporting documents (photographed or scanned) required for the granting of the requested certificate have been posted in each option. The information about the operation of the above actions was made through the website of the municipality (https://palaiofaliro.gr/ayta-einai-ta-pistopoiitika-kai-ta-dikaiologitika-poy-tha-ekdidontai-ilektronika/) and social media networking.

For the implementation of the initiative, the staff of the municipality's services, which are responsible for issuing certificates and attestations to citizens and businesses, cooperated. Specifically:

  • Registry office
  • Revenue Department
  • Shop Licensing Department

In particular, each service recorded the supporting documents that are required to be attached per case, so that they can be posted in each option. The contribution of the IT Department was decisive for the completion of the required tasks and the implementation of this initiative.
