March 2021 – December 2021
The specific educational program was created to raise awareness among the school community and the family about the prevention of smoking as a factor in maintaining our good health and to inform about the value of adopting healthy habits. On the ygeiamouzoimou.gr platform, teachers, parents and children will find particularly interesting information and interactive games on additional health education topics related to nutrition, physical activity, cultivating self-image & self-esteem, and friendship & social interaction.
The modern digital educational environment ygeiamouzouimou.gr, fully harmonized with the requirements of distance education, aims to raise awareness among students aged 10-15, their families and the educational community about a very clear message: That smoking prevention contributes to individual and social well-being and good health.
The importance of this initiative can be seen from the epidemiological data of lung cancer, which is the 3rd most common cancer in Greece, with high mortality rates. Avoiding smoking and maintaining the good health of children must be a priority for all of us, for the family, for the educational system, for society in general. The adoption of good habits works particularly positively in terms of prevention, so that children can make the choices that will follow them in their adult life.
The program began to be implemented in March 2021 with its pilot application and reached 720 students. At the end of September 2021, the second phase of implementation began and by the end of 2021, close to 10,000 students participated.
The educational initiative had an impact throughout Greece
The initiative ygeiamouzouimou.gr, which supports the global goal "3" of the UN. for good health and well-being, was designed and implemented by the QualityNet Foundation with the scientific collaboration of EOPE and the support of MSD.
There is no employee participation in this program
MSD's main concern is improving people's lives and beyond treatments and vaccines, it develops programs and initiatives aimed at disease prevention. Lung cancer is the 3rd most common cancer and smoking is considered one of the main factors leading to its development. Evidence shows that if we succeed in preventing smoking at a young age and help children to understand the negative consequences of smoking while adopting healthy habits, they will be much less likely to smoke as adults. The impact of the initiative on almost 10,000 students and the subsequent transmission of the message to 28,000 parents and 140,000 people is a significant impact of this initiative.
