Objective Action

Alpha Bank places the focus of its social contribution on responding responsibly to the real needs of society, creating the conditions for everyone's equal access to health services, effectively contributing to progress and prosperity.

The aim of the Program "Together, with the aim of health", is to enhance the quality of life and the feeling of security of the inhabitants of the Greek islands, in matters of health and medical care. The Program started with the aim of covering the registered needs of the Regional Clinics and Health Centers of the remote island areas and finally expanded its activity, providing medical equipment to all the islands of our country.

The avoidance of travel for daily medical operations, the coverage of basic medical needs, the safety of residents and visitors, the ability to respond in cases of emergencies or accidents, the equipping of health units with the necessary tools and machines so that the medical staff can provide services, are the main objectives of the Program.

Target Audience

To the medical and nursing staff of the health facilities, to the recipients/users of the health services, to the local government, and to the whole of the local communities.

Duration

8 years (2014-2021)

Description

Its program "Together, with the goal of health" has been implemented in collaboration with the Urban Non-Profit Company "Barren Fertile Line", for the last 8 years, with the aim of enhancing the quality of life and the sense of security of the inhabitants of the Greek islands, regarding in matters of health and medical care.

The program began with the priority of equipping the health structures of the remote island regions, but gradually expanded its action to all the islands of Greece, offering medical machines and medical equipment based on the different needs of each institution.

With the equipment of the health units, the inhabitants of the islands were able to have adequate access to health services and not be forced to go to larger, closer islands to be examined, but also in case of an accident or emergency, the local doctor's office, health center or in the bigger islands hospital, to be properly equipped to be able to respond to the critical incident. Also, not having to travel to another island significantly reduced costs for service recipients as they avoided travel costs. After the upgrade of the local medical structure, residents now feel more secure in their place of residence.

In addition, the provision of medical and pharmaceutical equipment qualitatively changed the daily work of the medical and nursing staff, as through the upgrade carried out in the health structures, the process and speed of diagnosis was facilitated.

Impact on Society

The Program contributes practically to the improvement of health services in the Greek islands, by offering medical machines and medical equipment, based on recorded needs. In total, since the start of the Program in 2014 until today, more than 242,504 pieces of medical and pharmaceutical items have been delivered to 74 health structures.

The population of the 70 islands visited by the program amounts to a total of 833,357 inhabitants and millions of tourists, who gained direct and unhindered access to health and services that, although necessary, are not at the same time a given for the local clinics of each island .

It is, therefore, a project of social contribution that functions as an auxiliary to the further social and economic development of each island.

According to the Social Impact Measurement (SIA) study of the "Together, with the goal of health" Program and its valuation using the Social Return on Investment (SROI) methodology, it was concluded that for every 1 euro invested in the program, it is returned to society a value of at least 9.62 euros.

More specifically, the study highlighted the following results:

  • Improved health services for recipients.
  • Residents' sense of security in their place of residence and their trust in medical opinions increased.
  • Travels to larger islands for daily medical operations were avoided. Services were upgraded and the daily life of the medical and nursing staff was improved.
  • It was possible to start development projects on the part of the Municipalities.
  • Those involved recognized the need to immediately strengthen the health system in island structures.
