Description

The Gotland Horizon X is a world-leading hydrogen-ready high-speed catamaran, the second ship in the Horizon series and the largest vessel ever built by Austal Philippines. Its innovative multi-fuel design is based on gas turbines that can run on a variety of fossil-free fuels, both in liquid and gaseous form, and features a unique combined-cycle propulsion system that integrates gas and steam turbines, driven by waste heat recovery. It is expected to carry 1,500 passengers and 400 vehicles. The vessel will be constructed utilising lightweight low-carbon aluminium provided by Elval.

As the project is currently ongoing (2025–2028), measurable results are not yet available.



Initiative Location

The material (lightweight, low-carbon aluminium) was produced at Elval’s facilities in Oinofyta, Boeotia, while the high-speed catamaran Gotland Horizon X is being built in the Philippines, at Austal Philippines’ shipyard located in Balamban, Cebu.
