Objective Action

ElvalHalcor supports the new generation, offering opportunities to acquire work experience and know-how, effectively contributing to the fight against unemployment and at the same time strengthening the economic and social development of our country.

In this context, ElvalHalcor started in 2021 to implement two twelve-month paid internship programs for 24 new Engineering graduates. These two programs aspire to become an institution for ElvalHalcor, in the context of the Company's effort to offer important opportunities to young scientists, enabling them to start an enviable career in their country and contributing in a lasting and meaningful way to society.

Additionally, these two programs contribute to the reversal of the brain drain that has so affected the young generation in our country, but also to the UN's Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4-Quality Education, SDG 8-Decent Work & Economic Development).

Target Audience

These two programs are aimed at young engineers, graduates of polytechnic schools in specialties such as Electrical Mechanical Engineers, Chemical Engineers, Metallurgists, etc.

Duration

The program is designed to last 12 months. After the completion of the annual cycle of the program, there is the possibility and the opportunity is given, for the participants to continue their work in the Company.

Description

Two 12-month paid internship programs have been launched by ElvalHalcor, enabling a total of 24 young engineers to start their careers at ElvalHalcor's industrial facilities (Elval Aluminum Rolling and Copper and Alloy Extrusion-Halcor). Elval's program entitled "Engineers of tomorrow" and Halcor's program "Bio-Engineering Horizons" started simultaneously in January 2022. The selection of the 24 new engineers was carried out through a meritorious and unchanging selection process that had from the beginning as aimed at selecting talented engineers, who aim for their professional development in a modern and dynamic industrial environment. Especially for the “Engineers of tomorrow” program, the selection process included the participation of the 30 final candidates in a professionally set up and highly demanding simulation center held in December 2021.

Through this process, which included interviews and role exercises and scenario editing (role plays and case studies), the best were selected and invited to participate in the program.

For the "Bio-Engineering Horizons" program, candidates underwent a series of psychometric assessments specially designed for graduates as part of their final selection.

Throughout 2022, the 24 new engineers who were selected and started working with ElvalHalcor (12 engineers in the aluminum rolling sector - Elval and 12 engineers in the copper and alloy extrusion sector - Halcor), will have the opportunity to obtain work high-level experience with practice in real conditions and undertake specialized projects in the individual departments of the factories in order to obtain specialized training according to their educational subject. At the same time, a tailor-made training program has been structured for the "Engineers of tomorrow", which will be implemented throughout their internship. In the same spirit, the "Bio-Engineering Horizons" program is moving, which has already implemented three (3) seminars, having launched at the same time other trainings aimed at the cognitive empowerment of the participants.

On January 17, 2021, the two sectors of ElvalHalcor welcomed the selected young engineers in a small event. During the event/information, the "Engineers of tomorrow" of Elval, as well as the participants of the "Bio-Engineering Horizons" program of Halcor, got to know the mentors and the individual projects, after first being welcomed by the General Managers of two sectors of the Company. They received their equipment and were given a tour of ElvalHalcor's production facilities. Already four months later, everyone has moved on to their projects and has fully integrated into the daily operation of ElvalHalcor.

Workers Participation

For the development and implementation of these two programs, the participation of our employees is large and important. The Communication department and the Marketing departments of the two sectors of ElvalHalcor, in collaboration, implemented the promotion and publicity plan for the programs. The Human Resources Departments of the two sectors of ElvalHalcor coordinated and were involved in the entire process of evaluating and selecting candidates, while providing an important and supportive role throughout the process of implementing the program until today.

Additionally, as both programs have a strong mentoring element, all participants work with an engineer in charge of the project they have undertaken, who guides and trains them while also acting as a mentor. Prior to this the department heads had been actively involved in the evaluation and selection process. Nominations were also open to members of the family or friends of the employees in both sectors.
