Description

The aluminium rolling division of ElvalHalcor, under its strategy towards a circular economy, is the biggest recycler of aluminium scrap in Greece and major shareholder in national recycling schemes (HERRCO). Recognizing that recycling is part of broad culture and awareness, the company promotes several initiatives and extended collaborations to promote the importance of recycling, its contribution in circular economy, the significance in the overall product carbon footprint and the climate change mitigation.

Elval operates a recycling and awareness center (CANAL) and collaborates with relevant NGOs like Every Can Counts, to organize and promote events and awareness campaigns. The Aluminium Can Recycling Center (CANAL), was created 2003, with the dual goal of raising public awareness re. aluminium recycling, as well as environmental awareness and education, especially for students.

During the International Recycling Tour, on June 3rd, ElvalHalcor, CANAL, Every Can Counts and the municipality of Kifisia, celebrated world Environment Day alongside 16 more countries.

The main event was held at Iroon Politechniou Square, where the residents were informed about the benefits of recycling, became part of interactive games and contributed to the construction of PixelCan, a colorful mosaic from street artist Argiris Ser. The pixelcan was made from 2000 used beverage aluminium cans (UBCs), courtesy of CANAL to be used as structural elements of the project.

Beyond this action, Elval expands collaboration and awareness initiatives to local community schools and stakeholders, providing Every Can Counts bins for schools, military camps, medical centres etc. It raises awareness as well as educates consumers of all ages,  especially children to be part of the aluminium value chain and active in recycling, offering an opportunity to collect their used aluminium packaging, return it directly for remelting and recycling, so as to become new products.
