The aluminium Rolling Division (Elval) is part of the Global Can Circularity Alliance, under the coordination of International Aluminium Institute, and the participation of industry leaders from across the aluminium packaging value chain.
The initiative’s mission is a call to action to all countries to commit to recycling aluminium beverage cans and their return in the value chain, by at least 80% in 2030 and 100% in 2050.
Used beverage cans are expected to reach 630 billion units by 2030 (against 420 billion in 2020), and their recycling can save up to 60 million tones of GHG emissions per year. As a result, the 100% recling rate of aluminium cans is a vital steps for the industry’s transition to net-zero.
The goal is bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, NGOs, and key stakeholders. Discussions will focus on addressing the challenges and opportunities in aluminium beverage can recycling, sharing success stories, and developing a collaborative action plan for global outreach.
The initiative participated in COP28 in Dubai, in order to make the mission public and inform leaders and audience of the importance of recycling.
