Climate food protects the planet from climate collapse and at the same time improves the health of all of us.
Food which is produced with animal products (milk, eggs, meat, fish) and / or comes from distant areas and / or has a lot of packaging needs more than multiple energy for its preparation and distribution than the local, vegetarian and without packaging food. For example, food from animal products contributes from 18% to 50% to the carbon dioxide emissions that threaten our planet with huge disasters (UN and Worldwatch Institute measurements), while it also has a greater negative impact on health. This type of food needs to be drastically restricted.
The UN Scientific Committee on Climate Crisis has made it clear that by 2030 we must reduce global carbon dioxide emissions by at least 45% to prevent the worst. The time to act and put pressure on governments is NOW. One can not talk about improving one's life or about treatment and rehabilitation when the environment in which one lives is in such serious danger. The changes and disasters are already evident. We are not talking about something in the future but about something that is happening NOW.
People with health problems, people with disabilities and the elderly in particular will be among the first vulnerable groups to suffer the negative effects of climate change.
Young people from all over the world are already taking drastic action and demanding that governments legislate for the planet and take responsibility for it. We all need to act together to maintain balance and life on the planet. We are talking about the life of all creatures and not just the human species.
The action extends in 3 axes:
"You go cooking": Climate-ecological cooking in kitchens of Thessaloniki.
The action started in the kitchen of the Special High School of Thessaloniki, continued in the kitchen of the Therapeutic Community KETHEA ITHAKI, while at the same time, climate cooking days are organized in collaboration with restaurants and taverns of the city. The collaborating taverns, restaurants or gastronomy clubs of Thessaloniki, on the day of the action, create extra climate dishes and recommend them to their customers. An information leaflet is available while people from the collaborating parts are on site to discuss and provide more information on the climate crisis and the group's actions.
"You go cooking": Ecological - Climate cooking at school.
At the Special High School of Thessaloniki, teachers cook ecologically with the students of one or two departments, in the school kitchen. They send the recipes they make by e-mail to the parents and strongly urge them to try to cook them at home. Parents can come to cook with the teachers and children at school. The goal is for this action to spread to other schools in Thessaloniki.
"You go learning": Organizing climate meals at home or in the context of activities of parent associations.
These meals are an opportunity to meet in a joint action - reaction of ordinary people to the climate crisis. An opportunity to discuss, connect and take collective practical steps to protect human life on the planet. We cook with our friends and relatives, talking about climate change, but following the principles of climate cooking.
We have already held such gatherings with our own people in the homes of members and friends of the OUR COMMON NOW team.
The ultimate goal is to integrate more bodies and movements into the circle of groups and bodies.
