The company Theofilos Chalkiadakis S.A. has been active in the hospitality industry since 1980. The investments of all these years in the construction of new modern hotel units are many. It is worth noting that the company has invested in the construction of two new hotel complexes in the last two years, with Cactus Bay welcoming its guests in the summer season of 2018 and continuing with Cactus Mare in the summer season of 2019 while at the same time they continue the renovations and the creation of additional infrastructure at Cactus Royal 5 * & Cactus Beach 4 *.



Objective Action

To strengthen the transparency and accountability of Cactus Hotels through the systematic recording and disclosure of sustainability indicators, covering key areas such as environmental protection, social contribution, and responsible corporate governance.

The collaboration with ReHORECA, with Cactus Hotels CEO Mr. Nikos Chalkiadakis as a founding member, seeks to create a comprehensive and reliable reporting framework that:

  • enables continuous evaluation of progress,
  • highlights the group’s best practices,
  • strengthens the trust of employees, guests, partners, and the local community,
  • and establishes sustainability as an integral part of the corporate culture.
 

Target Audience

The initiative is addressed to:

  1. Employees of Cactus Hotels, fostering a culture of transparency and sustainability.
  2. Guests who wish to know the positive impact of their stay.
  3. Partners and suppliers, encouraging responsible practices across the value chain.
  4. Local community and institutions, with the aim of disseminating best practices.
  5. The business and hospitality community, as a model for the application of systematic sustainability reporting.
 

Duration

The initiative has been implemented since July 2025 and is ongoing, with continuous monitoring, evaluation, and improvements across all Cactus Hotels.


Description

The Sustainability Reporting initiative of Cactus Hotels was designed to create a reliable and transparent framework for recording the group’s sustainability performance. Since July 2025, in collaboration with ReHORECA – whose founding member is CEO Mr. Nikos Chalkiadakis – a comprehensive methodology was developed for collecting, monitoring, and disclosing indicators covering the areas of environment, society, and governance.

Innovative elements:

  1. Integration of circular economy practices into measurement and reporting of indicators.
  2. Use of a digital platform for data collection and processing.
  3. Alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  4. Active involvement of employees in recording and evaluating results.
  5. Publication of information in a way that is clear and accessible to guests, partners, and the local community.

In this way, Cactus Hotels is positioned as a pioneer in the Greek hospitality sector, enhancing transparency and demonstrating its tangible commitment to sustainability.

Impact on Society

The initiative led to the systematic recording and disclosure of sustainability indicators (energy, water, waste, social activities), enhancing transparency and the organization’s credibility.
Employees were trained in monitoring tools, resulting in 85% improved participation in data recording.

The initiative is implemented in all Cactus Hotels in Stalida, Crete, covering guest facilities, common areas, and operational units, in collaboration with ReHORECA.
