Objective Action

Purpose of the "Get Trained. Get Hired!” is to:

  • Train/retrain unemployed, science school graduates with little or no work experience in high demand programming languages. Specifically, the participants are intensively trained for approximately one month and once they successfully complete the program, they have the opportunity to be hired by the company with a permanent employment contract.
  • It helps spread digital skills and digital stock. According to a research we carried out in 2017 in collaboration with the BSE, analyzing the digital maturity of the country, we found that Greece has a relatively satisfactory number of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) graduates, which seems to be following an increasing path the last 3 years. However, Greece is required to accelerate its efforts in relation to the development and upgrading of the digital skills and knowledge of its workers as it ranks in the lowest positions compared to its European partners.
  • Increase resume flow to meet hiring needs
  •   It further strengthens the number of women in its human resources. It is worth mentioning that at the moment the ratio of men to women in the Greek office is 35% women - 65% men. This percentage is impressive, considering the underrepresentation of women in the technology sector that is the company's core business
  • Stop the brain drain, giving employment opportunities in high growth sectors in Greece

Target Audience

Unemployed, science school graduates with little or no work experience

Duration

It has been implemented since 2017 and is constantly evolving

Description

According to recent research, there is a huge gap between demand and supply of ICT-savvy workers, which makes lifelong learning and acquisition of new skills essential. In Greece, this phenomenon is further aggravated due to Brain Drain, i.e. the leakage of specialized human potential abroad. Additionally, at the level of the Greek reality, high rates of unemployment are recorded and seen among young people, especially under the age of 25.

In this context the initiative "Get Trained. Get Hired!” answers all these challenges as

  • It concerns training in cutting-edge programming languages with immediate demand from the labor market and the wider ICT ecosystem
  • Aimed at unemployed science graduates with zero or minimal work experience (usually under 25 years old)
  • It emphasizes the female population where higher rates of unemployment are observed.
