BUSINESS: 426 PRACTICES

The objective of the initiative is the systematic energy transformation of CrediaBank’s physical branch network, aiming to transition towards a more efficient and environmentally responsible operating model an initiative that aligns with the gradual, integrated renewal of the branches’ network with “New Experience Branches”.The initiative [ZTK1] implements the Bank’s Sustainability Strategy by integrating energy-efficient technologies and utilizing electricity sourced from renewable energy, with the goal of gradually reducing the environmental footprint of its day-to-day operations. Through targeted interventions in lighting, electromechanical equipment, and energy management systems, the initiative substantially contributes to reducing overall energy consumption and limiting indirect greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, a standardized and scalable model for energy upgrades is being developed, which can be applied horizontally across the entire network, creating a structured mechanism for the continuous improvement of energy performance. The initiative constitutes a core pillar of CrediaBank’s environmental strategy, embedding sustainability at the heart of its operations and strengthening the Bank’s transition towards a more resilient and sustainable business model. Within the broader resource management strategy, CrediaBank has set a target to reduce paper consumption by 30% by 2030 (baseline year 2024), investing systematically in process digitalization and the transition to a more paperless operational model[ZTK2] . This approach transforms the branch network from a passive energy consumer into an active driver for achieving the Bank’s environmental objectives.

The initiative addresses a broad range of stakeholders, creating environmental value across multiple levels of the Bank’s operations while promoting the integration of sustainable practices into daily activities. Firstly, it directly targets CrediaBank’s customers and employees, who interact on a daily basis with an energy-efficient and environmentally responsible branch network. Through this interaction, the initiative enhances environmental awareness and encourages the adoption of more sustainable behaviors within the banking experience. At the same time, the initiative positively impacts the local communities in which the Bank operates, by reducing energy demands and promoting environmentally responsible practices at a local level, contributing to the overall improvement of the environmental footprint of these areas. On a broader level, the initiative actively contributes to environmental protection by systematically reducing the impacts associated with the day-to-day operation of of the “New Experience Branches”branch network, strengthening CrediaBank’s role in addressing climate change.
The initiative is implemented on a continuous and progressive basis, starting in 2025, as part of a long-term energy transformation program for CrediaBank’s branch network. Its implementation follows a gradual and scalable approach, enabling the phased expansion of interventions across the entire network, with the objective of embedding them as an integral component of daily operations. The time horizon of the initiative reflects the ongoing nature of the transformation, ensuring the continuity and evolution of energy interventions, as well as the systematic improvement of energy performance over time
The initiative involves a holistic and structured transformation of CrediaBank’s physical branch network, presenting the “New Experience” branches concept, aiming at the gradual yet substantial reduction of its environmental footprint through targeted energy interventions. Within the framework of the program, a series of focused energy upgrades is being implemented, transforming branch operations into more efficient and lower-impact units. These interventions include the replacement of conventional lighting with LED technology, the installation of motion sensors to reduce unnecessary energy consumption, and the upgrade of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems with next-generation, high-efficiency equipment. The initiative has already been implemented in 8 out of the Bank’s 65 branches, serving as a pilot phase for the development of a standardized and replicable model of energy upgrades, with the potential for gradual scaling across the entire network. At the same time, CrediaBank has secured Guarantees of Origin for the total electricity consumed across its branch network, ensuring that consumption is matched with energy generated from renewable sources. This practice leads to a significant reduction in indirect greenhouse gas emissions, reinforcing the environmental responsibility of daily banking operations. Through its gradual expansion across the network, the initiative establishes a cohesive framework for energy transformation, enhancing long-term sustainability, operational efficiency and organizational resilience. In parallel, as part of the broader transformation of branch operations, innovative solutions are being developed to enhance customer experience. Indicatively, New Experience Branches incorporate an interactive digital product and service discovery system combined with physical objects, contributing to a modern, engaging and customer-centric banking experience.
This application strengthens the integration of physical and digital experiences, supporting a modern and engaging service model. Furthermore, in selected buildings (such as the Mesogeion headquarters), water-saving practices are being implemented, including the reuse of water from washbasins for flushing systems. This intervention contributes to the reduction of water consumption and enhances the overall efficiency in the use of natural resources, as part of a more holistic sustainability approach.

The initiative has already contributed to the reduction of energy consumption across CrediaBank’s physical branch network, leading to a measurable decrease in indirect greenhouse gas emissions associated with its operations.
In New Experience Branches[ZTK1] where energy interventions have been implemented, a consistent improvement in energy performance has been observed, as a result of the systematic deployment of energy-efficient technologies. Combined with the matching of electricity consumption with renewable energy sources through Guarantees of Origin, the initiative supports the Bank’s transition towards a lower-emissions operating model. The integration of energy interventions with local environmental actions also generates a positive impact on local communities, strengthening CrediaBank’s contribution to environmental protection. Although the initiative is currently in a gradual expansion phase, its implementation to date confirms the effectiveness of a structured and scalable energy transformation model. The environmental performance of the initiative is no longer limited to energy but extends to resource management through the implementation of structured recycling practices in the Bank’s central buildings.
For the year 2025, the following quantities were collected and sent for recycling:
- 1,440 kg of paper (830 kg from the headquarters builiding at 260–262 Kifisias Avenue and 610 kg from the headquarters builiding at 109–111 Mesogeion Avenue)
- 139 kg of plastics
- 15 kg of aluminum
- 80 kg of other metal packaging
The materials were processed through certified procedures and forwarded to relevant industries for the production of new products, contributing substantially to the implementation of circular economy principles.
Through the progressive rollout of the initiative across the branch network, the Bank is laying the foundations for a significant reduction of its overall environmental footprint, actively contributing to climate change mitigation. To date, the initiative has been implemented in 8 out of 65 branches, representing the initial phase of a structured and scalable nationwide deployment. At the same time, 100% of the electricity consumed across the branch network is matched with renewable energy generation through Guarantees of Origin, further contributing to the reduction of ) emissions.
The initiative is gradually implemented across CrediaBank’s the “New Experience” branch network throughout Greece, covering a wide geographical footprint and actively contributing to the reduction of the Bank’s environmental footprint at a national level. Through the gradual expansion of energy interventions across the entire branch network, in combination with practices aimed at optimizing the use of natural resources—such as recycling and water-saving initiatives implemented at central office buildings—the initiative establishes a cohesive and scalable framework for sustainable operations. This framework is consistently applied across diverse geographical areas and operational environments, enhancing the potential for widespread adoption of sustainable practices and generating a positive environmental impact both in the Bank’s operations and in the local communities where it operates.
For the implementation of the initiative, CrediaBank has developed a cohesive network of partnerships with specialized organizations, enhancing the effectiveness and scalability of its sustainability interventions. At the energy level, the Bank collaborates with electricity providers to ensure consumption from renewable energy sources through Guarantees of Origin, as well as with specialized technical partners for the design and implementation of energy-efficient solutions across its branch network. In parallel, within the framework of responsible resource management, CrediaBank collaborates with certified waste management and recycling providers , ensuring the proper processing and reintegration of materials into the production cycle, in line with the principles of the circular economy. As part of strengthening its environmental strategy, CrediaBank has also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the UNESCO Chair on Integrated and Interdisciplinary Water Resources Management at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH).
CrediaBank’s employees play an active and crucial role in the implementation of the initiative, contributing both operationally and through volunteer activities to the advancement of the Bank’s environmental strategy. At a daily level, the operation of energy-upgraded branches encourages the adoption of responsible energy consumption practices, embedding energy efficiency into everyday banking activities and reinforcing sustainable behaviour in the workplace.
