4C NGO 4C - Cooperate Communicate Create Change

The 4C Non-Profit Organisation was founded in 2019 in order to give its members the chance to take advantage of European opportunities to achieve social change. The main goals of the organization are the fight against discrimination, the inclusion, the encouragement and empowerment of young people working in local communities and the defense of human rights with a vision for a future of solidarity and mutual aid.

Using art and sport as main tools of non-formal education, we seek to strengthen the local community and increase the impact of European values by encouraging young people to cultivate values such as teamwork, competition, solidarity, democracy, equality and access for all, without discrimination.

Today, the organisation is involved mainly at European and local level. The local community is the main beneficiary of its action and all the activities are organised under the European programs in order to be provided to the participants free of charge.

Objective Action

Following our vision of an inclusive world, we have created the Inclusive Traditional Games project, in which a team of partner organizations at European level are invited to collect traditional games from their home country and take action in the local community. The aim of the program is to create space and material for intercultural dialogue in local communities, to create initiatives for the integration of different minority groups so that they become more active and use public spaces, as well as to create a network of collaborating organizations and exchange good practices regarding social inclusion, using as a main tool sport and traditional sports games. We aim to strengthen the multicultural community in order to achieve equality, mutual respect, understanding and the fight against racism and discrimination. A quality consequence of the program is the creation of a manual, which includes traditional games originating from the countries where the partner organizations live (Spain, Italy, Serbia and Greece) as well as traditional toys from the minorities living in these countries.
The textbook will be translated into the languages of all participating countries in order to be a non-formal learning tool for educators who want to integrate traditional games into their curriculum and turn them into a tool to combat racism and the fight for equality and against discrimination.

Target Audience

Specifically, the Inclusive Traditional Games program is aimed primarily at people from the local community who are interested in participating in actions against discrimination and racism and want to raise public awareness about this issue, based on a less formal and more experiential way of learning. Throughout the program we have addressed minority communities living in Greece, such as the Albanian, Pakistani and Georgian communities to help us with the collection of games, in traditional and folk clubs in order to help us with the collection of Greek traditional games but also in local organizations such as the Evinikos Basketball Association and the Municipality of Fili with whom we carried out actions and played with their youngest members the games we have collected in the manual. In addition, many of our activities are addressed directly to the local community as they take place in local and public space, such as our visits to Pedion tou Areos, where we gather and play traditional games with children, trying to communicate the message that the importnat thing is not the language we speak but our willingness to play all together. Finally, through the training course we conducted, the project is also addressed to educators, coaches, facilitators and teachers who participated in order to be trained in the use of traditional games as a tool for learning and social inclusion.

In a general context, the program addresses the 3 different target groups to which the organization also addresses:

-Teenagers (13-17 years old)

-Young Adults (18-30 years old)

-Instructors (Adults).

Description

Taking into consideration the intensity of the refugee and immigration crisis, we decided that we must be active and act, always respecting society and the context of our capabilities. So, as an organization that mainly uses art and sports as a tool for non-formal education, we decided to invent an innovative way to use traditional games as a tool for integration, social inclusion, equality and the fight against racism and discrimination. The main purpose of this initiative is to encourage social inclusion through sport and through the promotion of traditional sports and games in open sports centers. First of all, the Inclusive Traditional Games project aims to create space and material for intercultural and intergenerational dialogue in local communities, so as to invent local initiatives for the integration of different minority groups at the local level. In addition, our goal is to support local communities to become more active and use public spaces. Finally, the fundamental goal is to create a network of collaborating organizations and to exchange good practices for social inclusion through traditional games and sports.

Impact on Society

Tangible results of the action are: -Print and online manual which includes traditional games from 15 different cultures (5 from the countries of the participating organizations and 2 minorities from each country) and which will be translated into 15 different languages. -5 2-day training programs (one in each country) in which participants are trained in the content of the manual to be able to use it in their local community. -Actions with the local community to which the content of the manual also applies. (From all participating countries)

-Large event to which people from the local minorities included in the handbook and people from the local community are invited in order to disseminate the results of the program, to use the handbook in practice and to be able to achieve social inclusion in practice. (From all participating countries)

In theoretical context, the above practical results achieve the objectives of the program which are to strengthen the multicultural local community in order to achieve equality, mutual respect, understanding and combating racism and discrimination but also to give minorities a chance to take initiatives and take advantage of public space to their advantage.
