Edic Patras (Local Europe Direct information centre) hosted by Region of Western Greece, is the contact point of local communities with the European Union and aims to bring the European Union closer to citizens.

Objective Action

  • Constitute a point of contact between the EU and Greece.
  • Provide the necessary conditions and structures and take the necessary steps to promote a planned communication and information strategy based on the European Commission's priorities , the development strategy " Europe 2020 " and the operational objectives of the Region of Western Greece.
  • To provide information tailored to the requirements, which will enable the public to obtain information , advice , assistance and answers to questions about the laws , policies , programs , developments and EU funding opportunities.
  • To contribute to the activation and cooperation of public and private institutions of Western Greece on issues of European interest and timeliness.
  • To contribute to the achievement of European development and integration, encouraging and ensuring public participation in the European dialogue on topical issues of European reality.
  • To make known to local and regional policies and European Union programs and to encourage the promotion of local and regional participation in Community programs.
  • Mediate the competent bodies of European Union and support , organizations , citizens, farmers , teachers , businessmen , students, etc. groups.
  • Strengthen and promote information and opportunities to participate in the issues of responsibilities for specific population groups with fewer opportunities ( Unemployed , Disabled , other Socially Excluded population groups).
  • To promote the conclusion of cooperative links with all social, economic , technological, public or private institution.
 

Target Audience

The center EUROPE DIRECT Patras addressed to the general public in Region of Western Greece and the citizens of the region can contact with the center for providing information, through physical contact, by phone, e-mail, and through social media.Moreover the centre organizes annually informational activities in selected target groups (business entrepreneurs , students , teachers , farmers, people with disabilities , voluntary organizations and civil society organizations).

In active information processes are included:

  • The organization of informational events ( conferences, seminars etc. ) for the general public
  • The organization of informational events ( conferences, seminars etc. ) for specific audiences for relevant topics
  • Visits to schools of Primary and Secondary Education of Region of Western Greece
  • Participation in other events (exhibitions , forum, events , etc. ) in subjects that have the aim of highlighting and promoting EU policies
  • The organization of events open to the general public (open events, roadshow, concerts , etc. ) aimed at highlighting the European Union's policies and their impact on our Region.
  • The supporting bodies that organize events on the European Union.

Impact on Society

The staff of our center , EUROPE DIRECT Patras the period 2014-2016 with the reliable and highly aware of themes which referred the interests of our fellow citizens questioners not just immediately responded to all the questions , but also in many cases provided advice.

The questions could be classified in the following categories:

  • questions about search of funding sources for private investment projects and business development .
  • questions about search of studies in MS of the EU. Came exclusively from university students and students of Technological Educational Institute . The information we provided included a briefing and tour of the site PLOTEUS and provide printed material on the rights of free movement , residence and study in the EU
  • questions about job search to other MS the EU .It is submitted by unemployed , underemployed and those threatened by unemployment . Considering the above as the most vulnerable population group , we spent a lot of time for each individual claim and its service
  • Finally questions raised issues about " EU citizen rights  , tax issues , passenger rights , citizenship rights , EU law , signposts to European Ombundsman". Usually require exhaustive search of information and many of them requested and redirecting to National Agencies

Initiative Location

Workers Participation

The centre consists of four permanent employees of Region of Western Greece that are equivalent to 2 AWU. Moreover, we offer volunteering work to students and to students that do their internship.

Benefits for Οrganization

The response of the EUROPE DIRECT Patras center to requests concerning funding sources of investment business programs was successful. The impact of service in such requests was high across the region and worked multiplier, of the highlightning of our Center.From the reactions of individuals we found that our center was considered as the most reliable and updated source of information for this category of requests to the point that public services and Agencies alluded citizens served by the Office of Europe Direct Patras.This prompted the Region of Western Greece  attempt to organize information sessions on entrepreneurship in which public participation exceeded 120 persons/ event.

Moreover, partnerships developed by the center EUROPE DIRECT Patras with students and teachers of Middle and Elementary schools and the teachers4europe network made it the center of student community reliable information partner.
