Description

At Mar-Bella Collection, we apply a holistic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, fully embedded in our identity and daily operations. This strategy balances the three pillars of sustainability: environment, society, and economy and is a core element of our identity and communications.
We recognise that sustainability is not one-dimensional. Its three pillars are deeply interconnected and require a unified, coherent strategy involving every department across the company.
We have developed the following action plans corresponding to these three key pillars.

Environment
We have developed a dynamic five-year masterplan, broken down into actionable projects of various scales. Each project is evaluated against clear criteria: sustainable design, energy efficiency, environmental footprint, and optimal operational use. Our aim is to improve working conditions, upgrade our product and services, enrich the guest experience,
and align our brand with the highest quality standards. This masterplan has been in place for five years and is reviewed annually as part of our financial planning and interdepartmental budgeting processes, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and business goals.

Key focus areas include:
•Responsible Resource Use
Implementation of an integrated resource management system certified under ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and ISO 22000. All our hotels are Green Key certified, while MarBella’s beachfront has proudly held the Blue Flag for the past ten years. We monitor energy, water, and CO₂ performance closely, investing in new technologies and building/equipment upgrades to maximise efficiency with minimal footprint.
•Emission Reduction
We’re working towards a 30% reduction in emissions by 2030 compared to our 2019 recorded levels.
•Plastic Reduction
Beyond recycling and monitoring streams including aluminum, glass, paper, plastic, electrical appliances, and textiles, we have replaced single-use food containers, cups, and cutlery with sustainable plastic-free alternatives, and introduced reusable polycarbonate glasses at outdoor outlets. We are on track to eliminate plastic packaging and tableware across all bars and snack bars.
•CorkCycle - New Recycling Stream
As one of the first hospitality groups in Corfu to join CorkCycle’s HORECA network, we have introduced cork recycling in 2025, turning waste into new materials including insulation and playground flooring (5kg of cork = 3m² of flooring).

Society
One of our three core pillars is Connection. In 2024, we built meaningful synergies with local organisations to amplify our social impact and spark dialogue around contribution and positive change. These initiatives will expand further in 2025.

Key collaborations include:
•Ιonian Environment Foundation (IEF)
The Ionian Environment Foundation (IEF) is dedicated to protecting and preserving the natural beauty of the Ionian region. By supporting local initiatives, IEF helps them grow, succeed, and create lasting impact, focusing its efforts on the most effective and meaningful conservation projects. In 2024 we reached out to the not-for-profit to make an initial donation in 2025 to support marine conservation initiatives in the Ionian Sea and introduce a point-of-sale donation enabling optional guest contributions.
•Ionian University – Music Department, Music Encounters
Through our collaboration with the Ionian University, we developed a programme that meaningfully connects the younger generation of students with the older generation, by offering free music sessions at the local public nursing home. This initiative strengthens the bond between the academic community and the local society, delivering mutual benefits: students gain valuable experience and empathy, while the elderly receive care and emotional support. The programme was established at the end of 2024 and will run through December 2025.
•Cultural Associations of Strongyli & Perdika Local Municipality
We agreed to undertake the renovation of two playgrounds, in Perdika (Thesprotia) and Strongyli (South Corfu), as a meaningful contribution to the local communities where we operate. As a company that creates daily moments of joy, recreation, and connection for families in our
hotels, we believe it’s important to extend this experience beyond our hospitality spaces, by investing in safe and welcoming play areas for the children of the local communities.
•Mermaids in Action
In 2024, we partnered with the volunteer group Mermaids in Action with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of Posidonia meadows along the beachfront of our hotels and the nearby beach in Corfu. Posidonia is one of the most vital marine habitats of the Mediterranean, and promoting its protection amplifies the environmental impact of our initiatives. As part of this programmme, we engaged with the local nursery, inviting young students to actively participate in a hands-on beach workshop in 2025. At the same time, we reached out to our employees, encouraging them to involve their families fostering intergenerational learning and a shared sense of responsibility for the protection of the marine environment.
•UrbanAct – “Colour in Hospitals”
We hosted the team that implemented the “Colour in Hospitals” project at the General Hospital of Corfu. This initiative, part of UrbanAct’s important series of artistic interventions in hospitals across Greece, was carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and in collaboration with the hospital’s administration, as part of a broader effort to enhance the aesthetic and psychological environment of healthcare spaces.
•PedTrauma Care
Since 2016, we have supported the organisation PedTrauma Care, beginning with an initial donation that marked our commitment to this important cause. Since then, we have contributed annually wherever possible, supporting initiatives that create a tangible impact. In 2024, we participated in their charity raffle, which raised funds for the purchase of medical equipment for four hospitals and health centers across Greece,
as well as to support A.P.L.S. Crete’s training programmes.
•Bike Friendly (NATTOUR)
Elix is certified as Bike Friendly (NATTOUR) and invites guests to explore the world in a more sustainable and active way through cycling. Our excursions combine nature, culture, and adventure, creating a holistic experience that connects guests with the local area and our values. In this way, cycling becomes not only a means of exploration but also a way to build meaningful relationships with our guests around shared values.
•Food & Equipment Donations
During 2024, we partnered with the Arta Food Bank and the Social Grocery in South Corfu, donating surplus food supplies (and equipment to the latter organisation) to support vulnerable groups within the local community. At the same time, we mapped local organisations and their needs, ensuring that unused hotel equipment is repurposed in a meaningful way rather than discarded.

Economy
In 2024, we introduced the double materiality approach across the company, following most recent guidelines for sustainable development and corporate transparency as defined by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Our goal is to strategically align our business operations with the respective social and environmental impacts, fostering a more holistic and responsible management model. This dual analysis has produced a clear materiality map, which we have used to guide subsequent actions and set priorities within our business framework.

The company's strategy focuses on the following Global Goals

• Good Health & Well-being
• Quality Education
• Affordable and Clean Energy
• Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
• Sustainable Cities and Communities
• Responsible Consumption and Production
• Climate Action
• Life Above Water
• Partnership for the Goals
