In Kindergartens, through an interactive presentation, of about 2 hours , which starts in the classroom and ends with an environmental game, children can understand easy concepts related to the environment.
When we say the word environment, do we really know what it means? What harm do humans cause with their daily activities? How can we become protectors of our planet? What is recycling? How and why do we plant trees and plants and what are the benefits of tree planting? All our topics are presented to the children through photos and through stories like fairy tales so that they can be understood by the toddlers.
In primary schools, we start the education with an interactive presentation in the classroom and end with an environmental game where children can easily understand what the environment, climate change, recycling, volunteering and realize that ultimately being responsible and respecting what "surrounds" them is not only not difficult but is a natural, enjoyable activity.
More specifically, the presentation that takes place in the classroom includes:
- how and why we should respect what surrounds us, what harm man can cause to the planet, how this act is returned to him and what we can do to reduce this harm
- we talk about climate change, recycling and proper waste management, food waste, fast fashion in simple and understandable terms
- what simple everyday practices we can follow today to be responsible citizens of this planet.
In secondary schools, either in the classroom or in the schoolyard, our presentation encourages students to express themselves freely, to take a stand and to ask questions about various environmental issues that concern them.
Teenage students already know basic concepts such as the environment, climate change, extreme weather events, and understand the harmful effects of human activity on the planet and consequently on all living things, so the programme for secondary schools has been designed to focus on good practices on some more complex environmental issues such as food waste, the fast fashion industry, intensive agriculture, intensive livestock farming and overfishing.
Of course, we do not fail to mention the issue of recycling and its proper implementation, as unfortunately it is something that most of us do not do in an appropriate way. Finally, we always refer to the environmental importance of tree planting, we point out to the students the benefits of planting trees, we teach them the correct planting procedure and then together with them we create a small botanical garden with endemic and bee-keeping plants in a pre-selected and properly prepared area of the school.
The total time of the project is about 2 hours and ideally we would like to train the school's environmental team if available. If there is not, we suggest that the school makes a selection of students who are substantively interested in this training to ensure maximum interaction and dialogue between students.
