Objective Action

The pharmaceutical industry DEMO ABEE is an industrial and commercial organization founded in 1965 and active in the development, production and promotion of pharmaceutical products. It is one of the largest drug manufacturing companies in Greece, with a very strong presence in the hospital market, where it holds the 1st position in sales in terms of number of units. With four production units covering an area of 66,000 square meters, high-tech storage facilities in Athens and Thessaloniki and a staff of 1,100 people, DEMO is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the SE Europe region. The company operates in 86 countries worldwide, in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Oceania. DEMO's Responsibility program is based on 4 pillars: Environment, Business Ethics in Marketing, Employees and Society focusing on children and vulnerable groups

For DEMO, successful entrepreneurship is not only the progress of the company and the achievement of positive financial results, but also social responsibility and sustainable development. Under the title of the program "It's OUR Responsibility", the company undertakes initiatives that support vulnerable social groups, supplying free of charge drugs, materials and machines to decentralized island clinics, NGOs, community pharmacies, and others. The company recycles impressive amounts of plastic and paper, while it manages its own collection of solid waste and transports it for destruction. DEMO ensures proper management procedures are followed for facility buildings and carbon dioxide emissions are recorded while saving energy from modern lighting systems

Working with Organization

DEMO ABEE, as part of its corporate responsibility program, has been supporting the organization Barren Line Fertile since 2018.

I. AGONI GRAMMI GONIMI: CULTURE CLOSER TO EVERYONE 2020 – 2021: The program traveled to Astypalaia, Sifnos, Karpathos, Kimolos, Oinousses, Limnos, Folegandros, Koufonisi, Amorgos, Leipsos, Santorini, Thirasia and Kos, where cultural, social and environmental activities were carried out. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the actions were mainly implemented online, without the physical presence of students and teaching staff in the classroom, but with the use of modern technological tools and distance learning methods. High school students of the Aegean islands had the opportunity with the workshop "Open schools, open minds" to "meet", with the help of technology, role models (mentors) from all over the world, whom they would not have been able to meet otherwise. The aim of the activity was for the students to broaden their horizons, to be inspired and envision their future as well as to "open up" to the world by learning about new ideas. In practice the students chose among others to chat with a researcher at MIT, or a CEO, or an Olympic or Paralympic athlete, or a researcher from Democritus, while the group session took place via live video in the school classroom. Students created the discussion agenda in advance by posing their questions, choosing one of the following seven discussion topics: 1)Life as a researcher at MIT, 2)Talking to a CEO, 3)Meeting an Olympic or Paralympic athlete competitions, 4) The branch of Life Sciences: Talking with renowned scientists, 5) The daily life of a researcher at the National Center for Natural Sciences "Democritos", 6) Robotics and new technological developments, 7) Exploring the Universe with an astrophysicist.

II. FERTILITY LINE FIGHT: WOMEN TOGETHER STRONG 2022:  An initiative and idea of DEMO aimed at raising awareness against women's abuse is taking place from March 2022 on eight islands of the Aegean, in collaboration with the Fertile Line organization. This year and given the extent that the phenomenon of gender-based violence has taken in our country, DEMO in collaboration with the Fertile Fertile Line and the organization Strong Me, under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Demographics, Family Policy and Gender Equality, is preparing the "Women Together Strong" program. In small places and on remote islands, phenomena of violence and abuse are often observed which are not recorded and not reported due to the fear of the negative reaction of the social environment. Outdated and dysfunctional social perceptions create a "stigma", even in the modern information society, which prevents victims of violence and abuse (either physical, or verbal/psychological) from seeking help. The "stigma" proves to be very strong many times, with the result that there is a confinement in unhealthy and possibly dangerous situations and there is a "dark number" of cases of abuse, which are not reported anywhere, are not attached to statistics and therefore, there is no possibility approach and support from the competent authorities and agencies. The aim of this initiative is to inform, awaken and mobilize against the phenomenon of violence against women which has reached dangerous proportions and highlights a huge social problem. At the same time, they come to the surface, where there are of course, the challenges and problematic behaviors that women are asked to face, so that they are neither forced to endure them, nor face them alone. The meetings are guided by specialized partners such as a Psychologist and a Legal Advisor, while a personality from the arts and culture participates as a guest, who will share their own experiences and help create a climate of friendship and trust. At the same time, the cooperation with the local government, with the local authorities and with the Women's Associations will be an important element of the implementation of the program. Through this collaboration, the information of the stakeholders will be achieved with the aim of raising the awareness of the local community about gender-based violence and how it can be recognized and dealt with. The program started on March 12 and will end two months later, i.e. in May, while it will take place on the islands of Lesvos, Naxos, Astypalaia, Santorini, Leros, Patmos, Kimolos and Skiathos
