The innovative Sorting at Source program of recyclable materials and mixed waste is implemented for the first time in Greece in the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni, which combines for the first time internationally the following:
"Benefit As You Save", which will be applied in two streams (paper & other recyclables other than glass - PMD) with special bags of different colors, where a special unique label will be adapted per household for the further identification of the household and the performance of benefits that will the Municipality finally decides. The collection and identification of the tags will be done during Door - Door collection.
Pay As You Fly (POP), in a customized pilot version for the Greek data, combining the POB with Bag scheme with the POP with Bucket and Weighing scheme. Also, in the pilot application of the POP, the method of collecting municipal fees through PPC does not change and thus the municipality's revenues from municipal fees will not be affected.
The Sorting at the Source (SPS) of the organics with a separate brown bin.
The Sorting at the Source of the glass with special bells for glass and of the articles of clothing in red bins in specific parts of the pilot area.
More specifically, the following are foreseen:
Mixed - PDO: In each building of the pilot area, a classic mixed waste bin of 1,100 liters (existing) or 360 liters (new supply) will be placed. A classic 240-liter mixed waste bin (new supply) per two buildings will be placed in the single-family houses and two-family houses in the pilot area. Special bags corresponding to the municipal fees paid by each household for the period of the pilot program will be placed in all mixed waste bins. The special bags will be delivered by the municipality to every household. When these are finished, each household should obtain additional special bags from the Municipality to be able to place mixed waste in the corresponding bin. At the same time, the bin of mixed waste will be weighed in order to determine the mass balance of the building and the households, so that it can be found in time which households are not doing a good PB and to be particularly informed.
Organic: A brown bin of 240 liters will be placed in each multi-family house and a brown bin of 120 liters will be placed in every two single-family houses - semi-detached houses. In the brown bins, the organic materials will be collected.
Glass: Near each building there will be a blue bell for placing the glass.
Items of Clothing 27 special red bins have been placed in various central parts of the city for the placement of items of clothing to be recycled
Recyclables - KOD: Each household will take out one day a week full of special bags for paper and PMDs. Each bag will be labeled with household identification so that benefits can be attributed to the household. The bags and labels will be supplied to each household free of charge by the Municipality.
