1. LoraWAN network
As part of the sub-system, antennas were installed at key points of the Municipality with the possibility of connecting via a local LAN network or a 4G mobile network, depending on the point, to the internet in order to implement a private LoraWAN network for the needs of the project and to serve future needs municipality's.
2. Subsystem for Measuring and Sending Power Consumption Data
As part of the subsystem, specialized equipment was installed and adjusted at nine points of interest. Specifically, a three-phase electricity consumption meter was installed in the building's central electrical panel just after the general fuse and escape relay. The meter has a pulse output and a suitable IoT electronic device, which is connected via LoraWAN protocol to the Municipality's network. The device sends the data to the electronic platform on the internet.
3.Data Collection and Storage Subsystem
The subsystem is responsible for collecting the data from the installed devices and storing it in the database. Also, the subsystem is responsible for detecting any delays in receiving the measurements from the devices and for creating control commands for the proper operation of the devices that exhibit dysfunctional behavior. The system can also adjust the elementary parameters of the devices such as the frequency of sending data and the connectivity settings of the devices.
4. Data Visualization and Processing Subsystem
Within the framework of the subsystem, an electronic platform was developed which processes and presents the data in digital form.
Specifically it presents:
• Installation and consumption measurement points. The points are displayed on a digital map using geographic position (longitude and latitude).
• Metadata for the points where they constitute the identity of the point (exact installation point, equipment, type of measurement, etc.)
• Consumption per point through digital flow charts that includes:
- Total consumption
- Instant consumption rate
- Average consumption per time periods
• The total consumptions from all points
Consumptions are presented in kilowatt hours kWh.
5. BI Subsystem for real-time Data analysis
As part of the project, a business intelligence (BI) subsystem was developed which analyzes the data and produces information in real time.
The subsystem enables the user to impose rules such as maximum permissible consumption per day or per defined time periods, etc. Also, the subsystem, by analyzing the data, can identify "unusual consumption" through machine learning algorithms. In any case of violation of rules or unusual use, the subsystem generates alarms and informs the user. Also, in case of violation of the installation of the meters, the system again notifies the user. Notifications are made by digital display on the platform and by sending emails to specific recipients. By comparing and utilizing consumption data from past time periods, the system can predict (with relative accuracy) consumption for a specific time period and also show the deviation from a similar time period with the lowest consumption.
