LAMDA Development, in collaboration with the non-profit organization “Me Alla Matia”, developed Inclucity4all, an innovative web-based accessibility platform that uses technology to facilitate the daily mobility of people with visual and mobility impairments and their access to public spaces and services throughout the city. The initiative forms part of the LAMDA Impact Corporate Responsibility program and addresses a fundamental need: enabling everyone to move around, participate in, and experience the city with greater autonomy and safety, without exclusion.
One of the project’s key challenges was to map, verify, and continuously update reliable accessibility data and present it through an interface that addresses different user needs while remaining simple and easy to use. This challenge was addressed through a structured, multi-layered development methodology based on qualitative research, interviews, and on-site observation, with the aim of documenting real barriers and everyday mobility scenarios.
A systematic mapping framework was then established, incorporating specific assessment criteria, on-site inspections, and a two-stage data verification process to ensure the reliability and usability of the information. The active participation of people with disabilities in both the assessments and the design process played a decisive role, in line with the principle “nothing about us without us.”
The accessibility assessments adopt a holistic approach, capturing the entire mobility experience, from nearby transport options to the entrance and interior spaces, through clear descriptions and extensive photographic documentation. In this way, the platform goes beyond simply classifying a location as “accessible” and provides users with the information they need to assess its suitability based on their individual needs.
The Inclucity4all web platform introduces a new approach to accessibility by shifting the focus from providing information to enabling people to navigate the city in practice. The project’s innovation lies not only in the technology itself, but also in the way it is used to address a real, everyday need: enabling everyone to move, participate, and live without barriers. Rather than merely mapping locations, the platform organizes information so that people with visual and mobility impairments can use it directly. Accessibility thus ceases to be an abstract concept and becomes practical knowledge that guides the everyday mobility of people with disabilities.
Through systematic mapping and the clear documentation of infrastructure and services, Inclucity4all creates a reliable and coherent picture of the urban environment. Users know in advance which facilities they can use safely, reducing the uncertainty that often accompanies their journeys. The platform has been designed around people, taking different needs and patterns of use into account. Simplicity, clarity, and functionality are not secondary features, but core principles that ensure the technology is genuinely accessible.
It is also important to note that Inclucity4all is not a static web application, but a dynamic system that continuously evolves. Its architecture allows for the ongoing addition of new data and expansion into new areas, creating the foundations for a broader accessibility ecosystem. Furthermore, the value of the platform extends beyond its users. The data collected can serve as a valuable tool for understanding and improving the urban environment, supporting accessibility-informed decision-making.
Through this approach, LAMDA Development introduces a new model of sustainable technology: technology that does not simply impress, but delivers meaningful impact. Inclucity4all demonstrates that innovation achieves its true value when it translates into tangible everyday experiences, contributing to the creation of cities that work equally for everyone.
