Ensuring the harmonious coexistence, interdependence and interconnection of water, energy and food security in order to build a sustainable ecosystem.
Water is a critical resource; necessary for sustaining life on earth and central to almost all economic activity. With water being essential not only for domestic use, but for energy generation through hydro-power production as well as irrigation within the agricultural sector, the efficient allocation of water is an issue of great importance. SDU adopts a holist approach towards examining the confluence of water, energy and food, providing methodologies and tools to support decision makers at all levels in order to sustainably manage water resources.
This initiative includes the following projects:
The target audience of the initiative includes stakeholders in the field such as small and medium-sized enterprises, academia, citizens, policymakers, investors, etc. The most important results include the implementation of important policies, the design of measures and solutions to ensure the sustainability of water, energy and food, while highlighting the close connection and interaction of these factors to build a sustainable ecosystem. The promotion and establishment of effective communication but also the increase of interest from all stakeholders, the possibility of achieving economic growth and the improvement of living standards, long-term sustainable development, finding funds to finance innovative practices are also some of the results of the initiative.
