Duration

The initiative is being implemented over the period 2022–2028, through the phased planning and implementation of reconstruction and development projects, investments and sustainable development interventions across ELLA Resorts’ hotel units.

Description

As part of the initiative, ELLA Resorts is implementing a multi-year programme of resort redevelopment, expansion and environmental upgrading. The projects incorporate sustainable and bioclimatic design principles, energy-efficient systems, renewable energy sources, water-saving technologies and practices aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of the properties.

The approach covers both new developments and the upgrading of existing resorts. In 2024, significant stages of the redesign and renovation of La Grotta Verde and Aldiana Club Creta were completed, preparing them for operation as ELLA ALKYNA and ELLA ROCRITA, respectively. At the same time, planning for the redevelopment of Capo di Corfu and Pelekas Monastery has commenced.

The investments focus on improving the energy and environmental performance of the properties, promoting more efficient use of natural resources and creating more resilient hospitality infrastructure.

The environmental dimension of the projects is supported by internationally recognised standards and assessment systems. Indicatively, ELLA ELISSA and ELLA HELEA have achieved LEED Gold certification, while BREEAM In-Use is also applied as part of the environmental performance assessment and improvement of the resorts.

The interventions directly affect the daily experience and operating environment of guests and employees, while also contributing to the more efficient use of natural resources and the reduction of the environmental footprint of the properties. At the same time, the implementation of the investments strengthens collaboration with technical consultants, partners, suppliers and construction teams.

In terms of measurable results, more than €32.5 million were invested in green infrastructure in 2024. At the same time, resort redevelopment and development projects incorporate energy-efficient systems, renewable energy sources, water-saving technologies and sustainable design practices. The application of international certifications, such as LEED and BREEAM, is an additional element of the infrastructure upgrade. Furthermore, the investments create a framework for collaboration with employees, technical partners, suppliers and construction teams, supporting the gradual integration of sustainable development practices into the operation of the resorts.

Overall, the initiative supports the gradual integration of sustainable development practices across the hotel properties and contributes to improving environmental performance and infrastructure quality.

Overall, the initiative contributes to the gradual transformation of the resort portfolio towards more modern, efficient and sustainable hospitality infrastructure, while strengthening the integration of sustainable development principles into the areas where ELLA Resorts operates.
