Objective Action

The Clinical Trials constitute the scientifically established and acceptable way of evaluation of therapeutic measures. The seminar that we have the pleasure to organise in Athens and Thessaloniki presents a complete education in the frame, the planning, the collection and analysis of data, the evaluation and the presentation of Clinical Trials, as well as an extensive discussion of concrete examples from various specialities. It is addressed to young clinical doctors which are usually called to apply the relative processes, but are also most often responsible for the the organisation and the evaluation of Clinical Trials.

Description

The program of the course is the following (in brief):

Introduction to medical research designs (observational and experimental studies). Causal inference, The rationale of clinical trials. Historical development of clinical trials. Example trials, Classification of clinical trials by objective - by design (Phase I - IV. Non - inferiority and equivalence, cross - over, factorial, multi - armed trials and cluster randomised trials), The size of a clinical trial.

Introduction to statistical analysis. Describing clinical trials data, Multivariate methods for qualitative outcomes. Intention to treat / as treated analysis, Statistical analysis of survival data, Issues in the interpretation of the findings: confounding / interaction, biases, Clinical trials meta - analysis, Clinical Trials: 1. Background, Ethics and Design Issues, Clinical Trials. 2. Trial Size, Analysis and Interpretation Issues, Practical Epidemiology for Clinicians.

The course takes place every year since 2009 and around 150 young doctors participate in. The diploma is given after the pertinent examination and the success rate is 85%.
