Educating children on the value of Healthy Eating

The support of the agri-food products of the region (technical support, their promotion and promotion), the creation of the Ionian Quality Pact and the accompanying Ionian Quality Mark with the distinctive title "Products of the Ionian Land", the support of farmers and the collective agricultural organizations of the region but also of consumers, the implementation of financial programs from EU and National Resources, the support (promotion and promotion) of Heptani cuisine and the promotion of the Mediterranean diet model.

Supporting agricultural income and employment in the countryside, increasing the degree of nutritional self-sufficiency of the Ionian Islands (increasing production), improving the quality of life in the countryside, protecting the consumer and human and animal health, fairer producer prices and consumer and the protection of the natural environment of our islands as well as the sustainable management of their natural resources.



Objective Action

For the year 2023, the goal of the Agri-Food Partnership I.N. it was the continuation of important initiatives but also the implementation of new ones, with the aim of strengthening and supporting the primary sector of the Region of the Ionian Islands, with the cooperation and extroversion of the Partnership with other agencies as a decisive success factor. With targeted actions, activities, programs, cooperation protocols and active learning training tools, the Partnership implemented informative and educational actions to highlight, promote and promote the local traditional products of the Ionian Land, as well as the value of healthy nutrition. In the field of education, integration is the main condition for access to all activities and all areas of social life, which is why our actions were targeted at children of various ages, with the aim of learning the value of healthy food and local of products, through games and educational material, made by the executives of the Partnership as well as educational trips to production units in our country.

 

Target Audience

Children from pre-school age to 18 years, but also their parents and guardians.

In particular, a targeted event was held at the 1st Special School of Corfu, for the students, but also for their parents.

Students of North Corfu Primary Schools and their Parents and Guardians.

Description

1. EDUCATIONAL EVENT FOR STUDENTS OF THE SPECIAL SCHOOL OF CORFU (Mediterranean diet and local Ionian products)

In the field of education, integration is the main condition for access to all activities and all areas of social life. Integration as a goal includes all efforts that can be made to help people with special needs and abilities to develop their abilities and personality to fulfill their role in society with the greatest possible degree of autonomy.

Based on the above, the Agri-Food Partnership in collaboration with Primary Education implemented an action at the 1st Special School of Corfu, an event of an educational nature so that primary school students can get to know and get close to healthy nutrition as well as the highly nutritious local traditional products of the Region us.

2. INFORMATIONAL EVENT FOR CHILDREN /FESTIVAL OF KERKYRA Nymphs / Festival Waterfall Nymfes 2023

Our goal was to organize an educational event where, through experiential activities of awareness and awareness, through games and storytelling, but also tasks of acquiring knowledge and getting familiar with healthy nutrition, environmental protection and local traditional products of our region, to cultivate a new culture in the children.

The participation was highly satisfactory, with the participation of approximately 50 children from 4 different schools of the Northern Complex of Corfu, as well as their parents.

3. ORGANIZATION OF A STUDENT COMPETITION ENTITLED "LESS FOOD WASTE" IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE CORFU GASTRONIC FESTIVAL

In the context of the student art competition organized by the Agri-Food Partnership PIN in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Education of the Ionian Islands, entitled "Cooking with Leftovers - Less Food Waste", awards were made by the President of Agri-Food, Mr. Nikos Mouzakitis and Regional Director of Education of the Ionian Islands, Mr. Petros Angelopoulos.

In addition, in collaboration with the company HISTONI (cottage industry with natural products) the children and the 5th River Scout System got to know the world of herbs and their use in gastronomy, not only to expand their nutritional range but also to get to know the wide range of nutritional benefits to naturally boost the immune system.

Using olive oil, honey, walnuts, beeswax, basil, oregano and nettles, they made salves and pesto cream, which they served to the attendees, eliciting very positive comments!

4. VISITS TO PRODUCTION UNITS - COMPANIES

Through the memorandum of cooperation with the Regional Directorate of Education, we made visits to school units and organized educational trips to productive units in Corfu. So, through a targeted educational material, in collaboration with nutritionists, but also with the always important assistance of the production units, we experienced a unique journey towards knowledge of nutrition together with our children. The response from students, parents and teachers was great, that's why we will continue.

During the visits, the advantages and weaknesses faced by the production units were discussed.

Impact on Society

The school is the mirror of society and at the same time through it various new social views and perceptions are promoted. It is obvious that there are no children who cannot achieve something. The reality is that all children have learning abilities, as long as we discover their way. Like adults, each child has his own learning style and, depending on his abilities, can make the corresponding progress.
