OPAP was founded in 1958 and is the leading company of the Greek gaming industry. It is an integral part of the country, showcasing continuous and consistent contribution to the socio-economic development of Greece.
Building on its already rich contribution to the Health sector and prioritizing the improvement of living conditions for children, OPAP undertook the initiative to renovate the two most important, oldest and largest Children Hospitals in Greece; “Aghia Sophia” and “Pan. & Aglaias Kyriakou”.
The key objectives of OPAP’s Children Hospital Renovation program are to:

create a pleasant therapeutic environment for the sick children and their relatives via the proper design, chromatic treatment and the entire renovation of hospital premises, waiting and examination rooms of young patients

The project initiated in 2014 and continues.
In the pillar of Health, OPAP has set as its priority to improve the therapeutic environment of the two largest and most important Children Hospitals, “Aghia Sofia” and “P&A Kyriakou”, who serve children from all over Greece. On that ground it marshals resources, energy and creativity to offer a pleasant therapeutic environment to the children, their parents, the nursing and the medical stuff. Already the ambitious project is in full progress and has showcased significant results.
Moreover, OPAP rolls out the “Route of Contribution” activation aiming to sensitize the general public and its employees. On the occasion of the Athens Authentic Marathon it has developed a dedicated application inviting people to participate and support the significant initiative of the Hospital Renovation. The users through downloading the application or visiting the microsite could answer to Marathon related quizzes or run (the application counted the total distance run by a user). For every kind of participation, OPAP offered an amount of money to the renovation project.
OPAP has completed more than 82% of the Children Hospitals renovation project.
The company started the renovation initiative in 2014 in the context of its CSR program. Up until today, OPAP has completed more than 82% of the renovation project in the two largest pediatric hospitals of Greece that treat young patients from across the country. Specifically, OPAP has delivered a total of 26 renovation works, 20 of them being renovated nursing wards. The total renovation work covers 12,680 sq. meters and has a capacity of 467 beds.
A key component of the renovation is the creation of a pleasant therapeutic environment for the sick children and their relatives via the proper design, chromatic treatment and the entire renovation of hospital premises, waiting and examination rooms of young patients.

1. In “P.A. Kyriacou” Children Hospital:
Nursing Unit of the 2nd floor and Renal Dialysis reception area that covers a total area of 700 m2 and has a capacity of 24 beds
2nd floor A’ wing Nursing Unit with an area of 700 m2 that has a capacity of 32 beds
Central entrances of the ground and 1st floor
3rd floor A’ wing Nursing Unit that has a capacity of 30 beds and covers an area of 550 m2.

Infectious diseases Unit on the 1st floor, where COVID-19 cases are treated
In 2020, OPAP renovated completely the Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Nursing Unit that has a capacity of 24 beds and covers an area of 610 m2. The renovation project has been completed amidst the adversities brought by COVID-19

3rd floor Cardiology Ward that covers a total area of 570 m2 and has a capacity of 20 beds
2 Nursing units of the 4th floor that cover a total area of 1,610m2 and has a capacity of 70 beds
2 nursing units of the 5th floor that cover a total area of 1,800 m2 and has a capacity of 50 beds
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that has a capacity of 50 incubators
2 Staircases of the building across the 9 floors.

The two pediatric hospitals are based in Athens and serve children across the country since they are the largest Children Hospitals in Greece
The sensitization campaign that invites everyone to participate in a symbolic way engages everyoned across Greece through a multifaceted and strong communication plan.
OPAP employees are continuously updated in the progress of the project. Moreover they actively participated in the “Route of Contribution” activation.
The initiative is implemented by the Corporate Social Responsibility Team in collaboration with a cross-functional team, comprised of several departments of the organizations (procurement, technichal department e.t.c)
OPAP employees are continuously updated on the development of the project and on the awareness raising initiatives and are invited to sensitize and inform their own frends and families. The are also invited to volunteer in initiatives that aim to support the young patients through various occasions such as seasonal activations, when they deliver gifts to the hospitalized patients.
The project reinforces OPAP's social profile, through our contribution in society and especially in vulnerable groups, such as children and the parents of young patients.

Based on the results of OPAP reputation monthly survey, the Hospital renovation initiative has significantly increased OPAP CSR recognition: 72% of our customers aknowledge the importance of our work, 67% of total audience aknowledge the importance of our work and 77% of non-customers aknowledge the importance of our work. OPAP has been for the past two years the top company in CSR awareness in Greece, amongst other companies who are very active in the area.
