ENERGEAN

Hydrogean: Energean’s model that combines Eco-hydrogen production with carbon dioxide sequestration into the adjacent Prinos Carbon Capture & Storage plant.
  • Contribution to the mitigation of the Climate Change phenomenon and cleaner air on Earth.
  • Protection of Earth’s atmosphere and ecosystem.
  • Taking decisive steps towards green and clean energy.
  • Alarming the oil and gas industry, as well as every industry, and setting a positive example to be followed on environmental issues.
  • Development and rise of environmental awareness on Climate Change and its consequences.
  • Initiatives and synergies with third parties developed by Energean for the protection of our atmosphere and the   environment in general (Partnerships for the Goals).
  • Be the first CCS plant and Eco-hydrogen hub in South East Europe.
  • Industries and electricity producers may take advantage of our CCS site while additional to that transportation, shipping, and domestic users may use our Eco-hydrogen production.
  • Current and future generations will benefit of Hydrogean.

From 2021 until 2050+

Energean’s green technology approach is a combination of “Eco-H2” production - from mixtures of its own regionally sourced gas reserves, bio-gas and other non-recyclable wastes – with CO2 sequestration into adjacent underground gas storage facilities (Prinos CCS).  This process is designed to achieve negative CO2 emissions whilst stimulating the development of H2-based industries and transportation infrastructure and hence accelerating a move to local Green H2 production.

Eco-H2 is a novel combination of technically proven chemical processes that converts natural gas and untreated biogas into pure H2 and CO2. It has also the ability to incinerate non-recyclable wastes and organic compounds with energy recovery via oxy-combustion, leading to pressurized CO2 capture 99%+ efficiency simply by water condensation. No external power is needed and the requirements of potable water and land use are minimal. Production would be min. 40 tonnes/day of Eco-H2, equivalent to approx. 0,55 TWh H2/y or 14’000 ton H2/y.

Prinos CCS project refers to a Northern Greece CCS site which has been approved within the Greek RRF (Recovery and Resilience Fund) last Q2-2021, and is under Pre-FEED. It is anticipated the capture and storage to be 1 mln tonnes CO2/y for local Kavala area in operations within 2025 and after its expansion to be up to 2 million tonnes CO2/y with CO2 shipped by liquid CO2 carriers from remote “Hard-to-Abate” industrial sites.

  • Local and state authorities in Greece
  • Private state companies that are engaged with Hydrogen technology
  • Big CO2 emitters that could ship the captured carbon to our facilities or be connected directly
  • Energean’s Board of Directors, Top Management and Executives.
  • The company’s Health, Safety and Environment Department.
  • The company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Department.
