Together for Good – Creating Shared Value for Society and the Environment

The initiative “Together for Good – Creating Shared Value for Society and the Environment” aims to generate a positive social and environmental footprint in the local communities where PPC operates.

Through targeted actions that support education, rural development, sustainability, and employment, the initiative highlights the importance of Creating Shared Value (CSV) — not merely as a concept, but as a practical tool for growth and empowerment in regions undergoing transition or recovery.

By investing in people and places, PPC turns shared value into real impact, strengthening both community resilience and long-term sustainable development.

The initiative targets a wide range of audiences, all connected by a common denominator: the local communities where PPC operates or where a transition is underway. Specifically, it addresses:

  • Primary and secondary school students, primarily in areas where PPC maintains an active presence
  • New and existing farmers seeking to adopt sustainable agricultural practices or transition to greener production models
  • Local producers and professionals affected by natural disasters
  • Educators and local institutions that act as key partners in knowledge transfer and community engagement

Target audiences are selected strategically, based on local needs, social challenges, and opportunities for collaboration with institutions, schools, and professional bodies, ensuring that each intervention delivers real, locally tailored value.

PPC has designed and implemented an integrated CSV action plan focused on empowering local communities.

This plan comprises six distinct initiatives, each responding to specific local needs:

  • “Me and my Plastic” – Raising Environmental Awareness

An educational initiative promoting responsible plastic use and recycling, aimed at instilling environmental awareness among students and local communities. The program was implemented across seven islands (Naxos, Kythnos, Patmos, Leros, Lipsi, Samos, Ikaria). As a direct intervention to reduce plastic consumption, seven water filtration units installed in selected schools.

  • Agroanelixi 2025 – Empowering Local Farmers

A support program for farmers and small agri-food processing businesses in the wider Megalopolis region. Its aim is to transfer critical knowledge and build entrepreneurial skills around the development of sustainable and differentiated food products based on local raw materials, targeting both domestic and international markets.

  • Green STEM: Building Sustainable Ecosystems

A multifaceted educational program for high school students in regions where PPC operates (specifically Chania and Lasithi). Through hands-on learning using STEM and Project-Based Learning methods, the program connects sustainability, innovation, and environmental consciousness with real-world applications.

  • Carbon Farming School – Cultivating Climate Solutions

A pioneering educational initiative on regenerative agriculture (carbon farming), promoting environmental awareness, green innovation, and student engagement in practical climate and farming solutions for the future.

  • Restart Evros – Regeneration through Beekeeping

A pilot project for the ecological recovery of the Evros region through beekeeping and pollination, in partnership with a local organic beekeeper severely affected by wildfires. He plays a key role in maintaining and monitoring the hives throughout the program and will continue managing them afterward, ensuring the project’s long-term sustainability.

  • Sustainability Seeds – Restoring Nature and Empowering Youth

An environmental education program in Northern Evia schools, empowering students to become future sustainability ambassadors. Additionally, 500 fruit trees will be donated, for 2nd year, to local farmers affected by wildfires, supporting the restoration of agricultural production and promoting local food resilience.

The initiatives were implemented with measurable social and environmental impact:

  • Over 3,000 students participated in hands-on sustainability workshops.
  • 4 farmers received training in topics such as Soft Skills, Business Model Canvas & SWOT Analysis, Marketing, Branding, and Social Media, along with tailored mentoring through the Agroanelixi 2025 program.
  • 660,000 bees were installed in the region of Evros, pollinating 2.8 billion flowers annually, positively affecting 28,274 acres of ecosystems.
  • 1 affected beekeeper (Restart Evros) was supported and is now being professionally reintegrated.
  • More than 10 local communities directly or indirectly benefited from the initiatives.

The initiative strengthened PPC's relationship of trust with local communities in areas of heightened social or environmental sensitivity, while also contributing to:

  • Enhancing the company’s reputation as a responsible and sustainable organization
  • Aligning with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ESG principles, particularly in the areas of SDG 2, 4, 8, 12, 13, and 15
  • Promoting active engagement of employees and partners in meaningful, purpose-driven actions
  • Developing a model of multidimensional local intervention (CSV model) that can be replicated in other transitioning regions
