TITAN CEMENT COMPANY S.A. |
| A technology built around efficiency and sustainability | ||||
Separate grinding in cement production is a modern technological approach that enables the production of cements with a reduced clinker content and, consequently, a lower carbon footprint. |
Separate grinding technology is aimed at businesses in the construction sector (ready-mixed concrete producers, construction companies and contractors), offering cements with improved properties, greater flexibility in meeting technical requirements, and reduced electricity consumption during production. |
| The trial period before implementing the technology lasted one year. From the beginning of 2026, separate grinding was put into operation for the production of cement. |
Unlike conventional co-grinding, where all cement constituents are ground together, separate grinding allows more precise control over the fineness of each individual constituent, as the materials (or some of them) are ground separately and subsequently blended in the desired proportions. This optimizes the particle size distribution and strength performance of the cement through the mechanical activation of individual materials, particularly Alternative Cementitious Materials (ACMs), such as natural pozzolana. The ability to optimize the particle size distribution of each cement constituent also contributes to improved rheological properties and enhanced durability of the concrete produced using separately ground cement. Another key benefit of this method is improved energy efficiency through energy savings. The technology adjusts the required grinding intensity to the properties of each material, avoiding energy waste caused by over-grinding and the lower efficiency of conventional co-grinding. |
There is no collaboration with external organizations. The technology was developed and implemented internally by the company, drawing on the expertise and experience of its personnel. |
| Employees from the company’s relevant technical and production departments were involved in the development and implementation of the technology, contributing to the design, adaptation and optimization of the separate grinding process. |
The technology of separate grinding is used at Titan's Patras factory. |
| Separate grinding is an efficient and environmentally friendly technique that enhances the quality and sustainability of the final product. |
The implementation of separate grinding technology contributes to reducing electricity consumption and production operating costs, improving the properties and quality of the products, and ensuring more efficient use of raw materials. At the same time, it enhances the company’s production efficiency, competitiveness and sustainability, while reducing its environmental footprint. |
