Project Poseidon

At PPC, sustainable development is our strategic commitment, aligning seamlessly with the company's business model and transformation needs. This commitment involves creating a roadmap for transformation into a "Creating Shared Value" (CSV) model, placing the recognition of the needs of stakeholders and society at its core. This aims to generate shared value among the Company, Society, and the Environment.

With the goal of bringing about positive changes in the broader ecosystem, PPC supports actions based on creative ideas that aim for the common good. Through our Corporate Responsibility program "PPC Act," our objective is to empower vulnerable social groups and contribute to the protection of the natural environment. We support the work of non-profit organizations that share a common vision for a better, sustainable future and participate in educational, sports, and cultural activities for all.

With a focus on environmental protection, in collaboration with ENALEIA, we initiated the volunteer mission "Project Poseidon," aiming to clean the polluted area around Sounion from abandoned fishing nets and plastics.

The strategic goal of the Poseidon project is to raise awareness and mobilize the civil society, aiming to make people realize the extent of pollution caused in the marine environment due to the indiscriminate use of plastic

The cleanup took 4 days, with approximately 3 months of preparation.

In the region of Sounion, significant amounts of waste, pollutants, and hazardous materials to the marine flora and fauna have been observed over the past decades. Therefore, PPC joined forces with ENALEIA to restore the seabed.

For about three months, divers mapped the seabed they would clean, around the island of Patroklos, at Kastellorizo Beach, and in the open sea around the Sounion area, keeping detailed notes. Simultaneously, ENALEIA gathered the necessary permits from the respective municipalities, the Ministry of Shipping, and the Port Organization of each area.

Upon completion, the divers descended and, for several days, towed the collected debris with lifting bags to 2 or 3 predetermined points in the water near the pier. On the day of the cleanup, held at the port of Lavrio, professional fishermen, divers, volunteers, and trained personnel with specialized equipment and cranes removed all the collected debris onto the shore and placed them in containers for further processing in the circular economy.

Additionally, a team of PPC volunteers, guided by ENALEIA, conducted a cleanup of Harakas Beach.

This action began with the cleanup of Patroklos Island beach, continued with the cleanup of Kastellorizo beach, followed by the seabed cleanup in the open sea around the Sounio area and Haraka beach, and concluded at the Lavrio port.

The result of the overall collection is over 25,000 kilograms of old fishing equipment and plastic!

To better understand this quantity, it is like filling 25 municipal garbage trucks with plastic!

At PPC, we invest in strategic partnerships and initiatives that have a positive impact on the environment. Through these collaborations, we contribute to environmental protection and work towards achieving the Sustainable Development goals.

Simultaneously, we enhance the value of volunteering, as our volunteer team was informed and mobilized in a symbolic effort. In this way, we send the message that through our collective collaboration, we can shape a sustainable future for the next generations. This optimistic principle marks the beginning of a series of actions that bring our employees closer, based on our values and goals for a sustainable future.
