EKO, recognizing transparency and accountability as fundamental pillars of sustainable development in the industrial sector, has implemented a pioneering initiative for the development and publication of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its lubricants portfolio.

The initiative aims to establish a reliable and scientifically robust framework for measuring and disclosing the environmental performance of products across their entire life cycle. At the same time, it responds to the increasing market demand for comparable and verified sustainability data, enabling informed decision-making by businesses, investors, and other stakeholders.

The strategic objective of the initiative is to support the transition to a new product development model, where environmental performance becomes an integral component of product value, promoting responsible production and consumption

The initiative addresses a broad and multi-layered group of stakeholders, including:

• companies operating in the industrial, automotive, and marine sectors that use lubricants and integrate ESG criteria into their operations, as well as organizations managing Scope 3 emissions.
• investors and financial institutions evaluating environmental performance,
• regulatory bodies,
• certification organizations,
• and the wider public seeking transparent and credible sustainability information

Publication of the EPDs took place  in March 2026.

EKO designed and implemented a highly innovative and technically advanced initiative involving the development and publication of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for key categories of lubricants produced at its modern production facility in Skaramangas.

The development of the EPDs was based on a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), covering all stages of the product life cycle—from raw material sourcing and production to use and end-of-life—fully aligned with international standards and requirements.

The initiative was implemented in full compliance with ISO 14025 and the respective Product Category Rules, and the EPDs were published in the International EPD System®, ensuring international accessibility, comparability, and transparency of the data.

This initiative represents a major milestone for industry, as EKO becomes the first lubricants producer globally to verify and publish EPDs for its products, setting a new standard for environmental transparency and accountability in the sector.

Through this initiative, environmental data is transformed into a practical and actionable decision-making tool, strengthening transparency, trust, and sustainability-driven market practices.

The initiative was developed through a strong collaboration framework with specialized technical and verification partners.

ENVIROMETRICS supported the development of the Life Cycle Assessment studies, while EUROCERT carried out the independent verification of the EPDs, ensuring accuracy, credibility, and full compliance with international standards.

The initiative was supported by collaboration among various internal employee teams, including lubricants' production, design, quality, and technical support teams, as well as EKO’s health, safety, environment, sustainability, and quality team.

The collection and processing of life cycle data required a high degree of coordination and expertise, contributing to the development of internal know-how and strengthening a culture of data-driven sustainability within the organization

The initiative has delivered significant and measurable outcomes, leading to the development and publication of Environmental Product Declarations for seven major categories of lubricants (lubricants for passenger car and heavy-duty vehicle engines, automotive transmission and gear lubricants, industrial gear lubricants, hydraulic and circulating lubricants, compressor and turbine lubricants, marine lubricants, and thermal fluids), covering a wide range of applications.

The publication of EPDs on an internationally recognized platform provides stakeholders with access to reliable, comparable, and verified environmental data, supporting informed decision-making and enhancing transparency across the market.

Furthermore, the EPDs provide detailed insights into key environmental indicators, including carbon emissions, energy consumption, and waste generation, enabling stakeholders to assess and improve environmental performance

Overall, the initiative contributes to shaping a new market culture, where sustainability becomes a key criterion in product selection and evaluation.

The initiative significantly strengthens EKO’s sustainability strategy by integrating environmental performance into product design and evaluation processes.

At the same time, it enhances trust-based relationships with customers, partners, and investors by providing a high level of transparency and credibility, while differentiating the company’s products in a highly competitive market.
